Jane Fallon has revealed that she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.
The English author, who has been in a long-term relationship with comedian Ricky Gervais, shared the news in a candid post on Instagram.
Thankfully, Fallon explained that the cancer was detected early after a routine mammogram, allowing doctors to act quickly.
She also shared more encouraging news from her medical team, telling followers that her prognosis is “excellent,” with surgery scheduled in the coming days to remove the affected area.
Fallon’s health update comes shortly after the release of her latest novel, “Welcome to the Neighbourhood,” which debuted on January 15, 2026.
Jane Fallon Credits Mammogram For Catching Breast Cancer Early
Fallon updated her Instagram community about her health battle with a selfie featuring superimposed text that read, “Bit of news” and “No one panic.”
In her caption, the author revealed that she had known about her diagnosis for several weeks.
“About a month ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer – very early stage, thankfully, & the prognosis is excellent,” Fallon wrote.
The novelist explained that the cancer was discovered during a scheduled screening and credited the medic whose close attention prompted further testing.
“I had no symptoms, but the brilliant radiographer spotted something iffy & sent me for further tests & eventually a biopsy,” she continued.
While admitting the process has been overwhelming, Fallon remained optimistic about her recovery. She said, “I’m getting incredible care, and all will be fine.”
Support Floods In For Ricky Gervais’ Wife After Cancer Reveal

Fallon’s post quickly drew a wave of support in the comments section.
The official account for the MacMillan Cancer Support shared well wishes and even offered help as the author prepares for treatment.
“Thank you for sharing this, Jane. We’re really glad to hear the cancer was detected early. Wishing you all the best with your treatment, and if you ever need us, we’re always here,” the charity wrote.
Some followers also used the moment to highlight the importance of routine screenings.
“Scream from the rooftops that a routine mammogram saved your life,” one commenter wrote. “There are so many women who still to this day do not get mammograms, and to hear stories like this shows how vulnerable we all are.”

Fallon began her update caption by acknowledging that she had slowed down her Instagram activity in recent weeks.
Before her diagnosis, though, she had been focused on promoting her new novel, “Welcome to the Neighbourhood.”
Fallon is a prolific author, known for titles like “Getting Rid of Matthew,” “Faking Friends,” and “My Sweet Revenge,” among others.
Her latest publication centers on a group of neighbors whose lives become entangled after a new couple moves into their seemingly peaceful community.
In her last post before delivering her new health update, Fallon shared photos of her new novel on the shelves at a TG Jones outlet.
“Hanging on in there,” she captioned the post.
Ricky Gervais Previously Revealed That Losing Fallon Was His ‘Biggest Nightmare’

A cancer diagnosis is the kind of moment that forces many people to confront the fragility of life.
Gervais has admitted that the thought had already haunted him for years, so much so that it inspired the premise of his Netflix series “After Life.”
The show follows a grieving journalist struggling to move on after his wife dies from cancer.
In an interview with The Independent, the TV writer explained just how personal the project was to him.
“This character Tony in ‘After Life’ is probably the closest to me,” Gervais said. “We can all imagine being in his position, losing his wife and being left wondering if it’s worth carrying on… Losing my life partner is my biggest nightmare.”
Jane Fallon Once Said Turning 60 Felt Like ‘Freedom’

If Fallon’s upbeat Instagram update is any indication, the novelist tends to approach life with a much more optimistic outlook than her famously cynical partner.
The same positive perspective was evident in a 2021 interview with Woman & Home, where she reflected on turning 60 and the unexpected sense of liberation that came with it.
“It felt like freedom,” Fallon said of the milestone. “Like I could finally stop worrying about what anyone else thought and just be me.”
