The March 11 episode of the “New Heights” podcast, co-hosted by Travis and his older brother, Jason Kelce, saw the pair delving into his comeback. When Jason asked when Travis knew retirement was out of the picture, the latter replied, “About midway through the season.”
When asked why he didn’t announce his return immediately, Travis explained that he had taken Jason’s advice “to take a step back” and “have a clear head” before making any commitments. “I’ve made decisions based off of emotions and, you know, they haven’t always played out the right way,” Travis confessed.
He added that taking his older brother’s advice was the best decision for him as it allowed him to think clearly without being influenced by “the frustrations from the season.” Travis’s words referenced the Chiefs’ challenging 2025 season, where they failed to make the playoffs for the first time in 10 years.

Travis added that he always wanted to return to the Chiefs, stressing that he did not want his career to end on a disappointing note. “It still felt like I was hungry enough to get back at it. And obviously there’s still a little bit of that grit and that emotion,” he shared.
“I f-cking hated the way that sh-t ended last year. I wanna make it right. I wanna get another chance at another f-cking Super Bowl,” Travis declared. He echoed similar sentiments on the March 10 episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” where he credited his fiancée, Taylor Swift, for influencing his comeback.
When asked if Swift’s dedication to her career had inspired him to keep playing the game, Travis proudly replied, “Without a doubt.” He explained that he and his fiancée were blessed to “share the same love” for their careers, a desire he claimed they’ve had since they were kids.
