The March 11 episode of the “New Heights” podcast, co-hosted by Travis and his older brother, Jason Kelce, saw the pair delving into his comeback. When Jason asked when Travis knew retirement was out of the picture, the latter replied, “About midway through the season.”

When asked why he didn’t announce his return immediately, Travis explained that he had taken Jason’s advice “to take a step back” and “have a clear head” before making any commitments. “I’ve made decisions based off of emotions and, you know, they haven’t always played out the right way,” Travis confessed.

He added that taking his older brother’s advice was the best decision for him as it allowed him to think clearly without being influenced by “the frustrations from the season.” Travis’s words referenced the Chiefs’ challenging 2025 season, where they failed to make the playoffs for the first time in 10 years.

Travis added that he always wanted to return to the Chiefs, stressing that he did not want his career to end on a disappointing note. “It still felt like I was hungry enough to get back at it. And obviously there’s still a little bit of that grit and that emotion,” he shared.

“I f-cking hated the way that sh-t ended last year. I wanna make it right. I wanna get another chance at another f-cking Super Bowl,” Travis declared. He echoed similar sentiments on the March 10 episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” where he credited his fiancée, Taylor Swift, for influencing his comeback.

When asked if Swift’s dedication to her career had inspired him to keep playing the game, Travis proudly replied, “Without a doubt.” He explained that he and his fiancée were blessed to “share the same love” for their careers, a desire he claimed they’ve had since they were kids.

Travis showered Swift in praise, raving about how “amazing” it was to have a front-row seat while watching her “keep finding new things to write about, keep finding new melodies, and things like that.” He added that it was incredible seeing her love what she does.

“Of course, that’s motivating. That’s motivating for anybody to see, let alone my fiancée,” Travis gushed. He noted that having someone as talented and dedicated to her craft as Swift by his side made him realize that it was too soon to give up.

Travis happily credited “The Fate of Ophelia” hitmaker for motivating him to get back in the game; however, he also patted himself on the back. The football tight end noted that he still had ideas and juice left for another season, hence his return.

The Blast covered more on Travis’s appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” reporting that he officially announced his return to the Chiefs on the podcast. He confessed that while he left the public guessing his next move, his team was in the loop.

“I’m not gonna lie, it was pretty short and brief. The Chiefs knew where I was the entire time on it,” Travis said about his decision to return. He explained that he did not make an official announcement because he needed to let the emotions of the past season settle.

After taking a break, Travis realized that his love for the game hadn’t dwindled. He raved about loving every aspect of his career, from going to work, putting on pads, and playing the game. The best part? He still believed there was no better place to return to than the Chiefs.

Before Travis’s official confirmation, The Blast reported that an insider had spilled the tea. They claimed the athlete had informed the Chiefs of his decision to return before the start of the free-agency period, bagging a major financial deal.

Other reports claimed Travis had turned down bigger offers from other teams to stay with the Chiefs, marking the continuation of their years-long relationship. The media personality joined the team in 2013 after the Chiefs selected him in the third round of the NFL draft.

Travis has been an instrumental part of the team’s successes, helping them bag three Super Bowl titles in 2020, 2023, and 2024. His close pal and teammate, Patrick Mahomes, celebrated his return on Instagram with pictures of them in action.
