Sasha Obama Spotted Vaping After West Hollywood Workout

Sasha Obama is once again in the public eye, this time following a gym session in West Hollywood. 

The 24-year-old daughter of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama was photographed leaving a luxury fitness studio in a sleek workout set, vape in hand. 

While Sasha has largely kept a low profile since her college graduation, her latest outing has sparked fresh conversation about fame, family influence, and growing up in the spotlight.

Sasha Obama kept things sporty and minimal during her Thursday workout in California. 

Photos obtained by the Daily Mail showed the youngest Obama daughter wearing a coordinated black athleisure set featuring a sports bra and high-waisted leggings, which slightly revealed her toned midriff as she exited the upscale gym.

After finishing her session, she appeared to swap sneakers for flip-flops, flashing a toe ring as she headed outside. 

Her long brown hair was pulled into a high ponytail, and she carried an oversized tote bag over one shoulder.

In one hand, Sasha held her phone. In the other, she carried a vape, taking a few puffs as she walked away from the building. 

The sighting quickly made rounds online, with many noting how relaxed and independent she appeared.

Since relocating to the West Coast in 2022 after transferring from the University of Michigan to USC, Sasha has been building her own life in Los Angeles, far from the White House years that defined her childhood.

Sasha Obama graduated from the University of Southern California in May 2023 with a sociology degree, proudly cheered on by both of her parents. 

The move to Los Angeles marked a significant shift for Sasha, who had previously studied in Michigan before transferring.

Living in California has allowed her to maintain a relatively private routine, though she and her older sister, Malia Obama, are occasionally photographed around the city. 

The sisters have been seen vaping and smoking on multiple occasions over the years, fueling speculation that the habit may have roots closer to home.

While neither sister has publicly addressed it, their father’s long and well-documented struggle with smoking has been widely discussed. 

Barack began smoking as a teenager and openly admitted that quitting was a challenge, even after entering politics.

Barack has been candid about his past habit, once revealing he smoked up to ten cigarettes a day. 

During a 2009 press conference, per the LA Times, he said, “As a former smoker, I constantly struggle with it.” 

He added, “Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes? Yes. Am I a daily smoker or a constant smoker? No. I don’t do it in front of my kids. I don’t do it in front of my family.”

The 64-year-old described himself as “95 per cent cured,” though he admitted there were moments when he slipped. 

In his 2020 memoir “A Promised Land,” Barack credited his eldest daughter, Malia, with influencing his decision to quit for good. 

He wrote that seeing her frown after she smelled it on his breath pushed him to stop.

In April 2025, Michelle revealed that she struggled to keep her daughters’ teenage experiences, including smoking, out of the press during their time in the White House.

According to a report from The Blast, she revealed that shielding Sasha and Malia Obama from tabloid scrutiny became increasingly difficult as they grew older. 

Michelle explained that typical teenage milestones like driving, prom, traveling, college searches, parties, drinking, and trying smoking were all normal parts of their lives.

However, she and her team worked hard to prevent those moments from ending up in gossip columns. 

The mom of two described the effort as a “nightmare” because every weekend brought a new challenge in maintaining her daughters’ privacy while allowing them to live ordinary lives. 

She noted that because the girls were under Secret Service protection, even simple things like playdates required extra planning, and the added publicity risk made keeping their behaviour out of the headlines even more complex.  

Michelle rarely speaks in detail about her daughters’ private lives, but she recently opened up about motherhood during an appearance on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast in January.

During the conversation, Michelle revealed that there is one question she tries not to ask her daughters. 

“Are you dating anyone?” she admitted she sometimes wants to say. However, she quickly explained why she avoids it, noting it could send a “subliminal message” and create unnecessary “pressure.”

She reflected on how easy it is for parents to project their own anxieties onto their children. 

“What are our own insecurities as mothers that we’re like, ‘Well, you seem happy, and you’re on a track, but do you have a boyfriend?’” she asked.

Michelle emphasized that young people already face enormous social expectations, from relationships to career milestones. Parents, she suggested, must be careful not to add to that weight.
