It was only recently that Mark Hoppus officially gave an update on his condition and revealed his illness as stage 4 cancer. He didn’t go into great detail. Other than to say that cancer had unfortunately spread to different parts of his body.

Yesterday though he took to social media to give fans that update on his condition. The news is certainly better than what he had to say last week. It seems that Hoppus is responding well to treatment.

Hoppus first announced that he was battling the disease back in June. At the time it’s been speculated that he had already gone through multiple chemo procedures. It wasn’t until last week that we learned just how severe his situation is. In spite of all this Hoppus remains optimistic saying,

“Scans indicate that the chemo is working!” he then added, “I still have months of treatment ahead, but it’s the best possible news.”

Fans, of course, were also quick to respond with positive comments on his social media pages. Telling him how his music had gotten them out of dark places and now they were sending positive vibes his way!

Besides the good news that chemo is helping him fight off cancer Hoppus is also sharing some very real thoughts with his followers on social media. With lines like, “It sucks and I’m scared”. He has expressed also his confidence in the medical team that is overseeing his situation. Hoppus mentioned that he still felt sick and “confused” from going through chemo. He described that process by saying,

But the poison the doctors pump into me and the kind thoughts and wishes of the people around me are destroying this cancer,”

Blink 182 has been one of the most unstable bands in recent memory. At least from the 2000s onward. This situation though has certainly brought some of the former bandmates closer together. Former Blink 182 drummer, and also +44 alum alongside Hoppus, Travis Barker, spoke recently about Hoppus’ condition, saying,

“Mark is my brother and I love and support him, I will be with him every step of the way on stage and off and can’t wait for us to play together again soon.”

It is really sad to think that a lot of times bad things have to happen to bring people together. In this case, it’s been Tom DeLonge, the other Blink 182 alum alongside Barker, and Hoppus who has been brought back into the fold. DeLonge left Blink and never rejoined his bandmates in other projects. On social media, though he commented on the current situation that his former bandmate is going through saying,

I too, have been aware of @markhoppus’s cancer diagnosis for awhile now. And to add to his own words that he used today, I would also like to say that he is strong, and a super-human who is pushing through this difficult obstacle with a wide-open heart.”
