Martin Short's Friends Rally Around Him As He 'Is Inconsolable'

Martin Short is not taking his loss well as friends rush to his side!

The actor is reportedly not able to move on from the sudden death of his beloved eldest daughter, who died by suicide in her Los Angeles home this week.

Martin Short's daughter, Katherine, was the first of his three adopted children with his late wife, Nancy Dolman, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2010.

The actor's closest friends have been spotted in front of his son's home in Los Angeles, where he is currently staying, to offer their condolences and support. Several famous faces like Steven Spielberg, Kurt Russell, and Eugene Levy all arrived at his son, Henry Short's, home on Tuesday evening.

Sources from the location shared that Katherine's death is nothing short of a horror to the family, and for someone as cheerful as Short, the loss has greatly affected him. In their words:

"Short is inconsolable. This loss has completely shattered him. He is gutted, and as you would expect, his closest friends are surrounding him with love and support."

Short himself was photographed arriving at Henry's home around 5 pm, buried in deep thoughts as his friends mentioned above all arrived after him to share an intimate dinner with him and his son.

The Daily Mail added that his two other closest friends, Meryl Streep and Steve Martin, are also providing him comfort and solace during these dark times.

The insider noted that his close friends could not help but refer to the crushing loss of his wife over a decade ago and how they have built a happy family together, only for him to experience another painful loss with Katherine's death.

The social work graduate's death equally left a lasting impact on her community in Hollywood Hills, as the loving letters from her neighbors proved it. Several of them reportedly penned loving words in their letter left by her doorstep, each expressing how much hurt her shocking death has caused them.

One letter described Katherine's death as a light going out on Earth while heaven gained a star in the sky. Another neighbor expressed regret at not texting Katherine to pick up her package at the front porch; maybe it would have helped them discover she had passed on earlier.

A third letter revealed how much of a darling neighbor Katherine was, and how she comforted that neighbor and her family through their period of grief.

The comedian's daughter was a licensed clinical social worker, therapist, and charity volunteer who reportedly loved to laugh through her struggles with mental health, according to her friend's description.

The Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson noted to USA TODAY yesterday that officers responded to a radio call indicating a possible suicide attempt from her block around 6:43 pm on February 23.

Upon their arrival, the authorities reportedly discovered a dead female at the location, identified as Katherine. The 41-year-old reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office.

Katherine began private practice in Los Angeles after she obtained her master's degree in social work from the University of Southern California School of Social Work in 2010. She specialized in adoption, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, grief and loss, suicidality, and relationship difficulties.

While studying at USC, she reportedly led group and individual therapy sessions for war veterans diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Katherine also worked at UCLA's Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital for four years.

Before Katherine's passing, Short and his pal Martin, who often worked together on comedy shows, were due to perform in Milwaukee on Friday as part of their "The Best of Steve Martin and Martin Short" comedy tour.

Unfortunately, with the new development, the duo has had to postpone the event, as announced by the Pabst Theater Group on their website. The Blast shared that the group, however, did not explain the reason for the postponement, but stated that it was due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Fabulous Fox Theater in St. Louis, Missouri, which is set to host the comedian and his fans on October 10, has also announced a postponement. Closer dates in March, April, and September remain intact with no definite plans to postpone them.

Last September, Short and Martin were forced to cancel a scheduled appearance at The Dome in Virginia Beach and Richmond's Allianz Amphitheater due to Martin testing positive for COVID.

Despite her expertise in mental health-related issues, the professional therapist reportedly took a break in the 2010s to seek inpatient treatment. According to her close friend, Rande Levine, Katherine did open up to her pals about some of her struggles, but those outside never got to witness those sides.

As reported by The Blast, Katherine's friend noted that while she fought her way through these struggles, she never stopped showing up for others and remained a "wonderful, giving, loving human being."

Short and Katherine's close bond was also another major aspect of her life, which her friends have testified to. According to them, the comedian was extremely supportive of her endeavors and remained a huge part of her life.
