Lizzo recently hit Instagram with a sultry new post that was, indeed, provocative.

Within 10 hours of posting, the comments section was already filled with hundreds of responses. But they weren’t all pleasant. In fact, it seemed like her fans had completely turned on her.

The post featured a mirror selfie with the caption, “I love you too.” Lizzo wore a black crop top and matching thongs that highlighted her noticeable weight loss. Her bare face gave the post a spontaneous, spur-of-the-moment vibe, as if she suddenly felt cute and wanted to show off on Instagram.

The fans who weren’t upset showed up, helping the post reach over 25,000 likes. One fan replied directly to her caption, telling Lizzo they loved her more, while another echoed, “I love you too.”

Threats And Backlash Follow

Despite the love from some fans, the comments section wasn’t entirely positive. Much of the backlash stemmed from a now-deleted video Lizzo had previously posted, where she used an analogy comparing being named in Jeffery Epstein-related files to being accused of stealing an apple from Walmart.

She argued that just being named doesn’t automatically mean guilt and suggested people should think more critically. However, many fans were outraged because they felt the analogy trivialized serious allegations of exploitation and abuse by equating them to petty theft, like stealing fruit.

Critics carried that frustration into the new post. One user commented, “Let’s stick to playing the flute and doing whatever this is. Critical thinking ain’t your strong suit.” Another added, “Well, she’s made her bed. I hope it’s worth it.”

Earlier, on January 28, Lizzo posted an emotional video seeking support for communities and families affected by a surge in ICE activity in Minneapolis. In the clip, she appeared braless in a black fitted shirt over high-waisted knickers while speaking directly to the camera.

At the time, some viewers criticized her appearance, claiming she wasn’t “fully dressed” and that it distracted from the message. More recent comments under the video circled back to the earlier fruit analogy controversy.

“This post is so performative after comparing sex trafficking to stealing f-cking fruit,” one user wrote. Another advised her to “just delete your account at this point.”

Lizzo, however, didn’t speak about Minnesota unprovoked. On January 21, Lizzo had posted a video modeling several Valentine’s-themed Yitty sets.

She first showed off a silky pajama set with pink and red heart designs on a white base. She also modeled a black semi-sheer two-piece and a red sheer lingerie set layered under a pink robe.

In the comments, a user asked if she could “comment on what’s happening in Minnesota,” with some requests sounding more like demands, which likely influenced the donation video. Other than that, however, fans loved the drop. But newer comments referenced the analogy controversy once more.

Before fans turned on Lizzo, most conversations around the singer centered on her weight loss. Earlier in January, she shared sun-soaked photos wearing a micro bandeau bikini top and high-waisted thongs that showed off her evolving figure.

Fans were relatively more supportive at the time. “She looks like she’s soft and smells good,” “Lizzo is perfect,” “You’re so cute, and your body is beautiful,” they complimented.

Now, those purely positive reactions seem less common in her latest post. Perhaps, she might be able to turn public perception before her performance at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on March 6.
