Earlier this month, The Blast reported that Sweeney sparked backlash for gracing the cover of W Magazine's Best Performances Issue. She posed nude in a provocative photoshoot, with her body illuminated by golden light to give her skin an ethereal glow.

Sweeney appeared to channel Marilyn Monroe vibes with her blonde curly hair, a resemblance critics did not miss. They slammed her for frequently copying the late icon and declared she would never be as amazing as the mid-20th-century actress.

The cover photoshoot wasn't the first time Sweeney sparked backlash for an ad, as she faced similar outrage over an American Eagle jeans campaign. The drama stemmed from her wordplay on "genes" and "jeans," which many saw as racially charged undertones.

The film reportedly debuted with an estimated $19–20 million domestically, an impressive number given that it faced off with movies like James Cameron's latest "Avatar" installment. Sweeney played Millie, a troubled young woman who takes a live-in housekeeping job for a wealthy family.

However, what she thought was a happy getaway from her problems quickly collapsed into an intense web of manipulation, obsession, deception, and sexual tension. Sweeney starred alongside Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, who played the couple.
