Global pop sensation Harry Styles was spotted in Vatican City in May 2025, a rare appearance for the former One Direction member who was then on a hiatus from music.
What's more interesting was that there were large crowds gathered in the area, as it was a very important moment for the Catholic community. They were awaiting the declaration of a new Pope.
Harry Styles Wasn't There For The Pope
On May 7, 2025, thousands of people gathered at the Vatican's St. Peter's Square, all eagerly awaiting the Papal Conclave, the voting ceremony to elect a new Pope, to conclude. On May 8, Cardinal Robert Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, was declared the Pope.
Among those in the crowd was Styles, who was there by accident. In an interview on BBC Radio 1's "Breakfast with Greg James," the singer explained why he was there.
"I was getting a haircut in Rome. Then I just heard all these people start shouting 'Habemus Papam!' and people just started running down the street," Styles explained. His barber briefly stopped cutting his hair and said, "There's a new Pope!"
Styles was just a five-minute walk away from St. Peter's Square, and he decided to take a stroll there. "It was wild," he said.

Styles tried to keep a low profile while in Rome, but an eagle-eyed fan was able to capture a photo that made the rounds on social media. He was wearing a cap and sunglasses, but there was no mistaking that it was the "Watermelon Sugar" singer.
He was still on hiatus from music at that time, taking a break from the spotlight after the two-year "Love On Tour" that concluded in July 2023. However, Styles still kept busy with other activities.
As reported by Runner's World, he ran two marathons, the Tokyo Marathon and the Berlin Marathon, wherein he was able to finish the latter in just under three hours. James also recounted the other times he was spotted during his break, including when he helped a fan reach for a phone under a vehicle and when he attempted, and failed, to parallel park a fan's car in Rome.
In addition, he attended fashion shows, sports events, and music festivals.
Harry Styles Shares Why He Needed A Break

Styles is now making the rounds to promote his fourth solo album titled "Kiss All the Time. Disco Occasionally," which will be released on March 6, almost four years since his last album, "Harry's House," debuted.
In a conversation with the hosts of "Capital Breakfast," Styles shared why he needed a break from music, saying that he needed a good reason to make new music. "I think for me it was a really important couple of years for me, personally, to kind of honestly just fall in love with music all over again and to kind of understand why being in a crowd is so special to people," he shared, per the Daily Mail.
Styles also mentioned that he needed to focus on the other aspects of his life that he wasn't able to pay attention to while he was touring.

Harry Styles' First Single Is Now Available
The first single, "Aperture," from Styles' new album has just dropped. It was produced by Kid Harpoon, with whom the artist also worked on his other songs, including "As It Was" and "Adore You."
As Syltes noted, per Billboard, "Aperture" was inspired by the time he spent away from performing. "I'd had a couple years away from work stuff and a lot of big realizations about generally opening up more to the world and allowing some more positive things to come into my life," he shared, adding that the song was the "perfect little bow" to his experiences.
