Republican state governor hopeful James Fishback is going viral after pushing what he calls a first-of-its-kind “OnlyFans Sin Tax,” proposing a jaw-dropping 50% cut from creators’ earnings in the name of funding Florida’s education system. But the real spark came when Fishback didn’t just pitch the policy, but he tagged creator Sophie Rain directly and told her to “pay up or quit.” Rain, one of the platform’s biggest names, responded with a savage rant, exclusively provided to The Blast, that frames the proposal as everything from a clout grab to a direct attack on thousands of women who make a living online, setting the stage for a headline-ready showdown that’s now spilling across social media and into Florida politics.

Florida GOP Hopeful Proposes 50% OnlyFans ‘Sin Tax'

On Monday, January 12, James Fishback took to X proposing what he calls a first-of-its-kind OnlyFans “Sin Tax," a 50% levy on OnlyFans creators in Florida that he claims would help fund the state’s education system. “As Florida governor in year one, I will push for the first-of-its-kind OnlyFans Sin Tax," he began. "If you are a so-called OnlyFans creator in Florida, you are going to pay 50% to the state on whatever you so-called earn via that online degeneracy platform...”

“We will raise hundreds of millions of dollars of income on the OnlyFans Sin Tax," Fishback added. "If we don't raise that income, you know what it'll mean? It'll mean something even greater has materialized for the young women and young men of our state...”

Fishback, a fourth-generation Floridian running to succeed Ron DeSantis as Florida’s next Republican governor, didn’t stop at floating the policy. Resharing the video, Fishback tagged Sophie Rain directly and wrote, " Hey @SophieRaiin, Pay up or quit OnlyFans. As Florida Governor, I will not allow a generation of smart and capable young women to sell their bodies online."

Sophie Rain Torches Fishback With Savage Response

Rain responded to the drama, and she didn’t sugarcoat her thoughts about Fishback or his proposed tax.

“I have not heard of this guy until now, and I have lived in Florida all my life. He’s looking for clout," she told The Blast exclusively. "First of all, imposing a tax on OnlyFans girls is quite possibly the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of. I already pay my taxes, millions in taxes, actually. Also, why are you taxing the creator, why not the subscriber?! By that logic, this makes no sense."

She added:

"Florida is OnlyFans central. You are just going to drive them out of the state, then what? Fishback is going to go after a group of people who work very hard for their money, just because he himself is against it, is wrong. I feel like it’s also a constitutional violation. No one ever forced me to start an OnlyFans, it was MY decision, so I don’t need a 31-year-old man telling me I can’t sell my body online. I am a Christian, God knows what I am doing, and I know he is happy with me, that’s the only validation I need.”

She also predicted the proposal wouldn’t survive once it faced lawmakers, telling The Blast, “He says this bill will be the ‘first of its kind,’ the second that bill gets on the senate floor it will be the ‘last of its kind.’”

Sophie Rain Warns OnlyFans ‘Sin Tax’ Could Hit Florida Economy

Rain went even further, warning that a crackdown on OnlyFans creators wouldn’t just impact individual women, but it could ripple outward into Florida’s economy. “You’re not just going after me. You’re going after thousands of women who make an honest living online. Drive them out, and you’re going to see what happens to local business, rental demand, tourism, all of it. We spend money here.”

In her view, Fishback’s plan ignores the reality of how creators contribute to the state and why targeting them could backfire beyond politics.

Rain Accuses Fishback Of Clout-Chasing Over OnlyFans ‘Sin Tax’

Rain also pushed back hard on the framing of the proposal itself, taking direct aim at the “sin” label and challenging who gets to define morality in policy. “How do you charge a sin tax to a Christian who hasn’t sinned? If you’re going to label my work immoral, at least come up with logic that holds up.”

Her criticism only sharpened as she questioned who would decide what qualifies as “sin” under Fishback’s proposal:

“If you’re calling it a sin tax, then who’s deciding what counts as sin? Because last time I checked, I’m a Christian, I pay my taxes, I follow the law, and I don’t owe anyone an apology for how I live. God knows my heart, and I sleep fine at night. If a politician wants to label my work sinful to score points, maybe he should take a look at his own campaign donors first. Spoiler alert: some of them are probably subscribed.”

Beyond the policy itself, Rain suggested Fishback’s tactic, naming her directly, is about chasing attention and manufacturing a headline-friendly feud.

“He is focusing on me because he needs the attention he can get at this point, which, honestly is sad if you think about it," she told The Blast. "He is first condemning what I do, but at the same time picking me out of the bunch to start some type of viral beef, yeah, no, I don’t think so. He thinks he can go after the biggest, but lets see how that turns out for him."

Sophie Rain Says She ‘Doesn’t Involve’ Herself In Politics

Even as the controversy continues to swirl, Rain insisted she isn’t trying to turn the moment into a political crusade, but she did point out what she sees as a glaring contradiction in who benefits most from her platform.

"I don’t involve myself in politics. I am a Christian, like I have said in the past, God is here to guide me in the right direction," she said. "Conservatives are my top spenders, so it would feel hypocritical from their end."

For now, Fishback’s proposed OnlyFans “Sin Tax” has done exactly what culture-war politics is built to do: go viral, spark outrage, and pull a controversial creator into the middle of the conversation, but Rain’s response makes it clear she’s not backing down, and she’s ready to fight the premise, the policy, and the politics behind it.
