Gisele Bündchen Faces Family Concerns Over Marriage To 'Penniless' Jiu-Jitsu Instructor: 'A Mistake'

Gisele Bündchen's family has reportedly expressed concerns about her marriage to Joaquim Valente, her jiu-jitsu instructor.

The supermodel's loved ones warned that marrying a man with far less money than her could be risky, given her $400 million fortune.

Gisele Bündchen and Joaquim Valente welcomed a baby boy in February 2025, whose middle name is River, and quietly tied the knot ten months later.

Bündchen's family has concerns about her marriage to Valente, who was once just her jiu-jitsu instructor, fearing she may have entered the union without fully weighing the risks.

A source shared with Page Six that the model's "family warned her that marrying a penniless guy when she is worth millions is a mistake."

Family has always been central to Bündchen. She remains close to her father, Vladir, and her five sisters, Raquel, Graziela, Gabriela, Rafaela, and fraternal twin Patricia.

Though Valente runs a jiu-jitsu academy in Miami, Florida, alongside his brothers and has worked with celebrity clients, Bündchen's level of fame and wealth is in a completely different league.

The supermodel, who has repeatedly ranked as the highest-paid in her field, has amassed an estimated $400 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Speaking more about her family's alleged fears, the source added, "Her family told her to just live with him, but between Valente's pressure and her being a traditionalist, she felt that since they have a child, they might as well marry."

Ten months after their son's birth, Bündchen and Valente quietly got married in Surfside, Florida.

While the pair reportedly signed a prenuptial agreement, insiders say it contains clauses that could result in a financial settlement for Valente in the event of a divorce, a point Bündchen's family reportedly would have preferred to avoid.

"There is a prenup, but with some loopholes that mean if they divorce, there will be a financial settlement for him," a source told Page Six.

Bündchen's career accomplishments are very remarkable. In 2000, she made history with a $25 million, five-year contract with Victoria's Secret and has appeared in campaigns for Chanel, Pantene, Under Armour, Apple, and IWC. She also has business ventures in lingerie and footwear.

Bündchen and Valente welcomed their first child together in February 2025, with a source revealing to People Magazine that the newborn is a boy.

While the newly-married couple has yet to share his first name, his middle name was revealed to be River.

Shortly after the birth, Bündchen celebrated her first Mother's Day as a mom of three, sharing the first photos of her and Valente's newborn on Instagram.

Although Bündchen has remained private about her third child, she has shared glimpses of him on social media over the first few months of his life.
