An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent fatally shot a woman on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in Minneapolis during an immigration-related operation. A video of the horrifying incident has been circulating on social media, igniting outrage.
A-list celebrities, including Amanda Seyfried, Simu Liu, and Cynthia Nixon, have spoken out about the incident, condemning ICE before expressing regret over the lost life.
While additional details about the fatal shooting are still being revealed, celebrities have been criticizing ICE and its immigration operations since the summer of 2025.

According to several outlets, including CBS News, a 37-year-old woman named Renee Good was shot and killed by ICE in early January 2026. Federal sources revealed that Good was an American citizen and was not the target of the ICE operation.
Witnesses explained that they saw Good's Honda Pilot SUV boxed in by several ICE agents, one of whom reportedly tried to open her door. Good then put her vehicle into reverse before shifting back into drive. A moment later, agents opened fire on the vehicle, which drove forward a few feet before crashing.
A day before the shooting, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara shared his concerns about ICE's presence in the state of Minnesota. "I've been concerned for weeks that because the issue is so emotional, because, frankly, some of the way this stuff has been carried out, the greatest risk to me is that there would be unrest or that there would be a tragedy," he said. "That somebody could get seriously hurt or killed because of what's happening."
Celebrities React To The ICE Shooting In Minneapolis

The tragic shooting in Minneapolis has sparked outrage not only among community members but also among social media users and celebrities.
Simu Liu, who starred in "Barbie" and now Peacock's "The Copenhagen Test," wrote that he was "beyond appalled at the murderous actions of ICE agents in [Minneapolis]." The actor continued by urging his followers and the public not to be swayed by "rhetoric," but rather use the facts to guide their judgment. "there is a video, and it clearly shows the murder of an unarmed woman driving away. AWAY. immigration laws can be enforced in a dignified way. f-ck ICE forever."
Amanda Seyfried also weighed in on the situation, resharing a video of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey telling agents to "get the f-ck out of Minneapolis" on her Instagram Stories.
Cynthia Nixon shared a video of the horrific incident on her Instagram as well, writing, "Abolish ICE!!!" In another post, she demanded that the ICE agent be arrested and charged with murder before requesting the arrest of "ALL ... ICE agents who blocked her medical care."
Minneapolis Council Member Calls For Arrest Of ICE Agent, Urges Community Members To Protect Each Other

Minneapolis City Council member Jason Chavez also reacted to the news, echoing a stance similar to Nixon's. According to CBS News, the local legislator called for the immediate arrest of the ICE agent before urging Minneapolis community members to "patrol our neighborhoods" to protect each other from harm.
Chavez insisted that Minneapolis locals not only patrol the streets to prevent the "kidnapping" of their neighbors, but also encouraged the public to help in other ways. "We need people to drive their neighbors to work, provide food, address the rent issues that they're struggling with, to make sure that people can live in this city peacefully," he said.

Tricia McLaughlin, the Department of Homeland Security's assistant secretary of public affairs, addressed the shooting in a statement, calling Good's alleged actions "an act of domestic terrorism." According to McLaughlin, the federal agent, who has remained unnamed, said that he was "fearing for his life" and the lives of his co-workers.
McLaughlin explained that the ICE agent used his training to protect himself and others before condemning Good and others for their alleged "constant attacks" on law enforcement. "These men and women who are simply enforcing the law on the books are facing 1,300% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats," she said.
What Other Celebrities Have Spoken Out Against Immigration And Customs Enforcement?

According to a previous report from The Blast, other celebrities have voiced their frustration over the news of ICE agents conducting immigration operations in cities across the United States.
Country singer Zach Bryan previously shared a snippet of an unreleased song, in which he laments the state of America while seemingly taking a direct shot at ICE and other law enforcement agencies.
"My friends are all degenerates, but they’re all I got, the generational story of dropping the plot. I heard the cops came, Cocky motherf-ckers, ain’t they?" he sang. "And ICE is gonna come bust down your door, try to build a house no one builds no more, but I got a telephone, kids are all scared and all alone."
Bryan added, "The bar stopped bumping, the rock stopped rolling, the middle fingers rising, and it won’t stop showing. Got some bad news. The fading of the red, white, and blue."
