Two years ago, the father-of-one reflected on a significant event in his career where a terrible solo performance taunted him so badly and affected his mental health.

As reported by ABC News, Nick explained that despite rehearsing the performance with country music star Kelsea Ballerini for the 2016 ACM Awards over and over again, he still performed mediocre.

"In retrospect, I can kind of laugh about how big I thought it was. But it did travel more than I wish it would have, and it did cause me to go to therapy," he noted. He continued that right after the performance, he dashed to his vehicle, and inside the plane, he expressed his concern to his manager.

Five years ago, Nick opened up to PEOPLE about his battle with diabetes and how an early diagnosis could have helped salvage the situation. He recalled one of his brothers discovering his illness following his unquenchable love for sugar, coupled with progressive weight loss.

Nick was ultimately diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, and he confessed that the early periods with the disease were the worst, as he had little to no idea of how to properly calculate the amount of carbs that should go into his body.

"It would have been amazing to have someone to look at at that time to say, Oh, this is a person living with it, and they're following their dreams. They're doing what they want to do with their lives and not letting it slow them down," the actor noted.
