Kelsey Grammer's Daughter Doubles Down On Estrangement Involving Last Name

Kelsey Grammer's second-oldest daughter is sharing more details about their relationship.

The Hollywood veteran is the proud father of eight children, including 33-year-old Greer Grammer, with whom he was estranged for 12 years. He welcomed her during his romance with his ex-girlfriend, Barrie Buckner.

Although Kelsey Grammer has been reunited with Greer Grammer for years now, it has not stopped her from recounting the complicated start of their father-daughter relationship and why she adamantly refuses the nepo-baby label.

Greer opened up about her relationship with Kelsey on an episode of the “Pretty Basic Podcast,” where she recalled a shocking truth her father once told her after their reconciliation. She noted that she was estranged from her famous dad since she was 4 years old.

Kelsey stopped having a relationship with his second-oldest daughter after splitting from her mother until he bumped into Greer when she was 16. Three years after they reconnected, the “Cheers” star confessed that he had asked Buckner not to let their daughter use his last name.

“I think I was like 19 when he told me that, and I started sobbing, because to me that was like the meanest thing you could ever say to somebody,” Greer recalled. She explained that Kelsey's words felt like he knew he never wanted to be a part of her life and believed it would be easier for her to live without his last name.

Although Kelsey had initially believed his second-oldest daughter would live a better life without him in it, he could not stop himself when they finally met again after twelve long years. Greer recalled that they met when she was 16 at a Christmas tree lot.

The actress was doing community service as Miss Teen Malibu when Kelsey approached her and asked if her name was Greer. At the time, the actor had been married to his third wife, Camille Donatacci, with whom he had two children.

Greer recalled being excited to finally have a father in her life; however, she had to stop herself from immediately contacting him to meet up. Her mother had advised her to take things slow and allow Kelsey to discover their reunion with his then-wife before waltzing into their lives as his second-oldest daughter.

Greer stressed that she now has a great relationship with her father, whom she credited for sending her to college. Nonetheless, she did not believe she had the same opportunities as other children of famous celebrities, pointing out that she didn't have a trust fund.

The Blast shared that Greer echoed similar sentiments about not being a nepo-baby in November, arguing that she spent a good portion of her childhood away from her father and his influence. She patted herself on the back for all her successes, claiming she did it without Kelsey's connections.

From competing in beauty pageants to clinching roles on MTV and Netflix shows, Greer alleged that none of these achievements came from having a famous dad in her corner.

“The biggest misconception about me, and I never know how to talk about it except to just trauma dump, is that I didn't know my dad until I was 16,” she said.

Similar to Greer's claims of making it in the entertainment industry without her father's influence, Kelsey denied pushing any of his kids into following his footsteps. He addressed the topic while speaking to Variety in 2024.

According to Kelsey, he never steered any of his children into Hollywood, but most of them fell in love with the industry. His firstborn and oldest daughter, Spencer Grammer, starred alongside her father in the Lifetime holiday film “The 12 Days of Christmas Eve.”

Greer found fame in beauty pageant competitions before scoring TV roles in the MTV series “Awkward” and Netflix's 2021 “Deadly Illusions.” Kelsey's younger kids were also passionate about the movie industry, from animation to storytelling, interests that made their father proud.

Kelsey was 28 when he welcomed his first child, daughter Spencer, and his eighth child was born 42 years later. He and his current wife, Kayte Walsh, announced the birth of their son, Christopher, in October.

Two months later, Kelsey spoke to Fox News Digital about the parenting advice that he would give his younger self. After fathering eight kids, the actor had learned many valuable lessons about being a parent, but one stood out from the rest.

“Maybe be a little more patient. I didn't quite understand with my first child how a kid could cry all day,” Kelsey said. He confessed that he initially thought fatherhood would be challenging; however, he managed to get through it and build a solid relationship with his daughter.
