Although Hollywood is never free of gossip surrounding the relationship status of A-list stars, actor Kumail Nanjiani found the talk that he was "doing it" with Michelle Obama absurd.

In a recent appearance on the "So True" podcast, "The Big Sick" star explained that he first got wind of the rumors when his wife Emily Gordon told him about it, amid rumors that the former first lady was having marital issues with her own husband, Barack Obama.

"I was so excited!" Nanjiani said, suggesting he found the chatter flattering, per the New York Post.

"My friend, our mutual friend, pulled Emily aside and was like, 'Hey, so I heard that Kumail and Michelle Obama are like doing it.' And she was like, she wasn't even upset, but multiple people brought it up to me," he told comic Caleb Hearon.

Elsewhere during their conversation, Hearon pointed out that Nanjiani isn't the only star caught in the web of affair rumors involving the Obama family.

He brought up a long-standing, equally baseless rumor that Barack was going out with Jennifer Aniston at some point.

"What I'm saying is, my friend Kumail, you're up there with Jen Aniston in terms of affair rumors," Hearon teased Nanjiani.

The "Eternals" actor said he thought the Obamas were "slumming it" with their alleged affair partners, noting that he meant "no shade to Jen."

Meanwhile, the "Friends" star has addressed the claims about her and Barack when she appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" last year.

"Of all the calls you get from your publicist where you're just like, 'oh no, what's it going to be?' or the email saying, 'some cheesy tabloid is going to make up a story'… and then it's that. I was not mad at it," she said.

"That is absolutely untrue," Aniston insisted, noting that she had only met the former president once, and actually "knows Michelle [Obama] more."

The 44th U.S. President and his wife have faced unsettling rumors that their marriage was on the verge of collapse.

The pair set tongues wagging when Michelle didn't accompany him to several high-profile events, including Donald Trump's inauguration and the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter.

However, Michelle addressed the talks earlier this year when she appeared on the "Work In Progress" podcast, telling host Sophia Bush that she was now in a position to control her own calendar as "a grown woman."

The former first lady went further to point out that people couldn't understand that she was "making a decision" for herself and instead "had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing."

"That's the thing that we as women, I think, we struggle with, like disappointing people," she said, per the BBC. "I mean, so much so that this year people couldn't even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing."

Michelle continued, "This couldn't be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right? But that's what society does to us."

The former first lady added that she "chose to do what was best for me. Not what I had to do. Not what I thought other people wanted me to do."

Barack and Michelle have been married since October 1992, raising two daughters, Malia and Sasha, in the process.

Back in 2020, the former first citizen opened up about marital life in his memoir, "A Promised Land," explaining that his time as commander in chief placed some strain on his home.

"Despite Michelle's success and popularity, I continued to sense an undercurrent of tension in her, subtle but constant, like the faint thrum of a hidden machine," he wrote, per InStyle. "It was as if, confined as we were within the walls of the White House, all her previous sources of frustration became more concentrated, more vivid, whether it was my round the clock absorption with work, or the way politics exposed our family to scrutiny and attacks, or the tendency of even friends and family members to treat her role as secondary in importance."

Barack continued: "Lying next to Michelle in the dark, I'd think about those days when everything between us felt lighter, when her smile was more constant and our love less encumbered, and my heart would suddenly tighten at the thought that those days might not return."

Michelle has previously shared that they had to find the spark in their relationship after their time in the White House ended.
