An eyewitness has described the frightening moment Andy Dick was found unresponsive in Los Angeles on Tuesday, December 9.

Shawn Harrell, who was nearby when emergency responders rushed in, said the actor looked “blue” and appeared as if he had “passed away.”

Harrell explained that he first saw people running around and shouting for help, and although he initially thought a movie scene was being filmed, he quickly realized something very real and very serious was happening.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Shawn Harrell said the terrifying moment began when he saw a crowd gathered with cameras, which made him assume the commotion was part of a film shoot.

He explained that he first heard people shouting, “Wake him up! Man, wake him up!” and saw others running around.

At that point, he still believed it was staged, admitting, “I thought it would probably be more than likely part of a movie.”

However, everything changed when he heard the shouting again and realized Andy Dick wasn’t acting.

Harrell described the disgraced comedian’s condition in stark detail, saying, “His body was limp. It was like deadweight. It was blue. I thought he passed away.”

He added that the comedian was completely unresponsive and “slumped over,” which made the situation even more alarming.

The eyewitness tried calling for help but struggled to reach anyone immediately.

He explained that the chaos and confusion made it difficult to understand what was happening, especially because cameras were still around.

According to Harrell, paramedics arrived within minutes and quickly worked to save the actor.

He recalled them administering Narcan, saying, “They put that Narcan stuff in him,” though he wasn’t sure whether police or bystanders gave it first.

Harrell watched as Dick slowly regained consciousness, describing how the situation shifted from panic to relief.

Once awake, Dick surprised Harrell with his calm reaction. Harrell even joked with him, telling him, “Hey man, they brought you back to life. You were gone for a minute.”

Dick responded with “I know,” which Harrell said made him feel like the “NewsRadio” star had experienced something similar before because of how “nonchalantly” he acted.

What struck Harrell the most was Dick’s appearance just minutes before.

He repeated that “He was blue. His hands [were] blue and his face was blue,” something he had never seen on a person before.

However, the witness also shared that Dick recovered quickly, estimating that it took somewhere between five and 10 minutes from the moment he appeared lifeless to the moment they had a normal conversation.

On Wednesday, The Blast reported that Dick was found unresponsive on a Hollywood street staircase in Los Angeles.

Photos obtained by TMZ showed the 59-year-old slumped over on a concrete set of stairs outside a building, with friends and bystanders trying to keep him upright and shouting for him to “wake up” as they called for help.

Witnesses at the scene reportedly administered Narcan, a drug used to reverse opioid overdoses, and Dick responded to the treatment before firefighters and police arrived.

Officials confirmed responding to a medical emergency at the location involving a man who appeared to have overdosed, but did not publicly release his name due to privacy laws.

After being revived, Dick later told TMZ he was alive and okay but declined further medical treatment or hospital transport.

Following the incident, a haunting video surfaced showing Andy Dick looking clearly disoriented just weeks before the overdose.

As reported by The Blast, the clip filmed on November 8 showed Dick sitting on a sidewalk outside a downtown Los Angeles theater holding a drink, slurring his words, and struggling to stay focused while talking with someone recording the moment.

The footage showed the “Road Trip” star responding to questions about music and artists.

At one point, he blurted out, “Missy… Oh, OutKast. F*cking hell yeah,” before abruptly losing track of the conversation and asking, “Wait, what?”

At times, he gestured and laughed, leaning against a wall and raising his cup, but his rambling and foggy responses alarmed viewers who later saw the resurfaced video after his overdose incident on the street.

Dick’s recent ordeals come on the heels of a series of other negative reports about him.

In January 2023, he was arrested in Southern California and charged with failing to register as a sex offender, along with public intoxication, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies in Lake Elsinore responded early one morning to a report of a possibly drunk person and found Dick displaying signs of intoxication before taking him into custody without incident.

During a routine check of his records, law enforcement discovered that Dick, who had previously been ordered to register as a sex offender following a 2018 conviction, was not up to date on his required registration.

As a result, he was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on the combined charges.

He was eventually sentenced to 90 days in Los Angeles County jail.
