Kate Winslet has ignited a firestorm on social media after sharing her candid thoughts on her Hollywood peers using weight loss drugs like Ozempic. During an interview, the "Titanic" actress didn't hold back when speaking about how stunned she was to learn that many of her industry peers have turned to plastic surgery and other methods to look like altered versions of themselves. However, the reaction to her comments has been varied, with some blasting the actress for allegedly having work done herself, while others defended her, saying drugs like Ozempic should be reserved for those who need it most.

Winslet was quite honest during a recent interview about the rise in plastic surgery and Ozempic use, telling a UK publication that she found it to be quite "terrifying." Continuing, Winslet explained how "devastating" it is for a person's "self-esteem" to be wrapped up in how they look.

"And it's puzzling because I have moments when I think it's better, when I look at actresses at events dressed how they want, whichever shape — but then so many people are on weight-loss drugs. It's so varied," she said.

Winslet is correct about the increase in celebrities and public figures who have spoken openly about using Ozempic to achieve their fitness goals. However, she questioned whether many of them truly understood the decision they were making and how it could impact their bodies long-term.

"Do they know what they are putting in?" she asked. "The disregard for one's health is terrifying. It bothers me now more than ever. It is f--king chaos out there."

As she went on, Winslet, 50, stated that she's OK with the aging process. "My favorite thing is when your hands get old," she said. "That's life, in your hands. Some of the most beautiful women I know are over 70, and what upsets me is that young women have no concept of what being beautiful actually is."

Users have been reacting to Winslet's comments since her interview went viral, with some expressing their disappointment in the actress for seemingly doing what she's criticizing others for.

"While I agree with her, I also have to say that it's slightly unfair for Kate Winslet to judge those who might want plastic surgery because 99.9% of us didn't start out as beautiful as her and are aging far worse," a user wrote on Reddit.

"Oof. I hate this whole thing where woman [sic] disparage other women's choices for succumbing to immense personal and professional pressure to look a certain way," another posted.

"Always my body, my choice, until i'm making choices with my body that include glp1's or plastic surgery. Get f-cked Kate," a third wrote.

On the flip side, Winslet received much support from other fans who believe she was trying to share an important message about self-love and radical acceptance.

"She's not talking about obese people or diabetic people taking these drugs who need it. She's talking about skinny people who are abusing these drugs," someone wrote.

"She's so right. The Instagram face is killing beauty. It's all filters, photoshop, makeup, surgery. We all know who started this trend, and it's the worst thing to happen to women since Kate Moss told us nothing tastes as good as skinny feels," another replied.

"I love that she said this, it's so important for young women to understand this. Unfortunately, it's going to fall on deaf ears because this message needs to be delivered by the Sabrina Carpenters or Kylie Jenners of the world," a third shared.

Winslet's recent comments about plastic surgery and Ozempic aren't the first time she's shared her hot takes on the popular methods people use to achieve their desired looks.

In 2024, when she was introduced to Ozempic, the actress said the idea of using a drug to help suppress one's appetite sounded "terrible." She added, "Let's eat some more things!"

In another interview, Winslet slammed parts of the industry for how they speak about women and their bodies. "Not wearing make-up on screen? That's not brave. I am an actor. I love my job. I'm bloody lucky to do it. I'm not on the frontline. But let's come up with some other words like 'relief' at seeing normal women feeling joyful on screen," she said.
