Sha'Carri Apologizes
Sha'Carri appeared on the "Today Show" on Friday, July 2, where she apologized during an interview with Savannah Guthrie. She claims that she used the ban substance to cope with the unexpected death of her biological mother. Richardson was raised by her grandmother and learned about her birthmother's death from a reporter during the Olympic trials in Oregon. She said the news was triggering and “definitely nerve-shocking.”

“It sent me into a state of emotional panic,” she told Guthrie, adding, “I didn’t know how to control my emotions or deal with my emotions during that time.”
She apologized to her family, fans, and her sponsors. “I greatly apologize if I let you guys down, and I did.”
Her Suspension
The United States Anti-Doping Agency officially announced the positive test on Friday morning. Richardson had accepted a suspension of one month, starting on June 28. The NY Times reports that the suspension could clear her in time to run in the 4x100 meter relay if she is selected to Team USA.
