The Actress Reportedly Did Not Grow Up In A Wealthy Home

Earlier this year, USA Today reported that the actress had opened up about her childhood. She explained that after her sophomore year of high school, she dropped out and decided to pursue her career as an actress. This career breakthrough came just after her parents separated.

Due to this decision, the mother-daughter duo drove from Bellingham, Washington, to Los Angeles to break into the Hollywood scene. Things were not easy at first.

Swank revealed that, for a period, she and her mum lived in their car, then started staying at a friend's family home that was up for sale, where the pair slept on an air mattress.

Things began to look better for them after her mother got a secretarial job about a month later, and they rented a bedroom from a single mother in Burbank.

In an interview, she describes herself as having grit and a "figure it out" attitude. She explained that even though everyone might face similar challenges, they have to put in their best effort and persevere.

HarpersBAZAAR reports that an agent told Swank she was being naive about the parts she pursued in auditions, but she did not take it to heart; instead, she remained resilient.

"Well, if you said that to the little girl who was living in a trailer park who said she wanted to be an actress, I'd probably still be in that trailer park," she said.
