Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio MartĂnez Ocasio, has gained notoriety for his opposition to the Donald Trump-led administration's hardline immigration policy.

He particularly came under fire for his previous remarks about the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers after the NFL and Apple Music chose him to headline Super Bowl LV's halftime show next year.

Although the 31-year-old rapper is a US citizen born in the US territory of Puerto Rico, and performs mainly in Spanish, he decided not to add any US dates to his world tour because he feared ICE officers would lurk around the venue and detain fans.

"People from the US could come here to see the show. Latinos and Puerto Ricans of the United States could also travel here, or to any part of the world," he told i-D Magazine. "But there was the issue of — like, f-cking ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it's something that we were talking about and very concerned about."

Back in June, Bad Bunny also shared a video on social media in Puerto Rico where he seemingly bashed officers who took part in what he called local ICE raids.

"Look, those motherf-ckers are in these cars, RAV-4s. They're here in Pontezuela," he said in Spanish.

Bad Bunny mentioned that ICE was working at the Avenida Pontezuela in Carolina, a city east of Puerto Rico's capital, San Juan.

"Sons of b-tches, instead of leaving the people alone and working there," the singer added.

The Republican backlash against the "Monaco" rapper's Super Bowl performance has now reached its peak after President Donald Trump reacted to the news during an interview on Newsmax's "Greg Kelly Reports."

Trump said the move was "absolutely ridiculous," although he admitted that he's "never heard" of the global music star.

"The NFL just chose the Bad Bunny rabbit or whatever his name is," Kelly told Trump," per EW. "This guy, who hates ICE, he doesn't like you, he accuses everything he doesn't like of racism."

"I've never heard of him," Trump responded. "I don't know who he is… I don't know why they're doing it. It's crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment— I think it's absolutely ridiculous."

House Speaker Mike Johnson said that the decision was a "terrible" one and suggested that 82-year-old country singer Lee Greenwood would have been a better choice.

However, Bad Bunny mocked the MAGA outrage during his "Saturday Night Live" monologue, saying in Spanish that "no one can ever erase or take away" the contributions Latin individuals have made to the US.

"If you didn't understand what I just said, you have four months to learn," Bad Bunny defiantly added in English.
