Taylor Swift Says 'Wood' Started From A Place Of Innocence

When Swift dropped her highly anticipated album "The Life of a Showgirl," one track immediately set social media ablaze.

Titled "Wood," the song is laced with eyebrow-raising references to her NFL fiancé, including a “magic wand,” a “Redwood tree,” and the line, “His love was the key / That opened my thighs.”

Fans quickly pieced together the raunchy meaning, but Swift insists she never intended the track to be so daring.

Appearing on "The Jimmy Fallon Show" on Monday night, she explained, “So I brought this into the studio and I was like: I want to do a throwback, timeless-sounding song and I had this idea about ‘I gotta knock on wood’ and it would be all these superstitions. And it really started out in a very innocent place... I don’t know what happened, man. I got in there, we started vibing and I don’t know how we got here. But I love the song so much.”

The candid admission had Fallon’s audience in stitches, with Swift laughing at herself for diving headfirst into unexpected lyrical territory.

Swift’s Song Sparks Backlash And Praise

Not everyone was thrilled by the track’s bold content. Barstool Sports founder and self-confessed Swiftie, Dave Portnoy, admitted he was unsettled by the lyrics despite initially liking the song.

In a video on X, he revealed, “Gonna snap through it right away and get into the next thing; Life of a Showgirl. I’ve probably listened to it three or four or five times. Without further ado, I have my top five songs from Life of a Showgirl.”

He added, “So here we go Number 5, Honey. I like it. Number 4, Eldest Daughter. Number 3, Life of a Showgirl. Number 2, Fate of Ophelia. And my favorite song on the entire album is Opalite.”

Portnoy continued, “I think that has a chance to be hit. Very cool song. Happy-go-lucky, dancing through the lightning strikes — I can see myself singing along. Now, there is caveat. I really did like the song Wood the first couple of times I listened to it — it hooks you right away! You know I’m on message boards chopping it up with the Swifties. What is this song about? It’s about Travis’s d-ck. And then you re-listen and there’s ‘Redwood tree’ and ‘hard rock.’ No, I’m not bopping and weaving to a song about Travis’ d-ck.”

His blunt reaction echoed the shock of some fans, though plenty of Swifties defended the singer’s unapologetic creativity.

Controversy aside, Swift also used her late-night appearance to gush about her fiancé, whom she described as her “favorite person.”

The two announced their engagement in August, and Swift proudly flashed her dazzling ring, said to be worth between $700,000 and $1,000,000.

Fallon, inspecting the gem, quipped that he was “blinded” by its sparkle.

Swift explained she still can’t stop staring at it, “I look at the ring constantly.”

She also recounted the proposal, revealing that Kelce popped the question in his backyard shortly after recording an episode of his "New Heights" podcast.

According to her, even the confident Kansas City Chiefs star was nervous.

She shared, “My heart’s racing. I’ve never seen this dude nervous, ever.”

Graham Norton Steps In To Save Swift From Awkward Baby Question

Swift's appearance on Fallon's show came following her earlier appearance on "The Graham Norton Show."

Norton reportedly had to step in during an uncomfortable exchange on the show when actress Jodie Turner-Smith shifted the conversation in an unexpected direction.

According to a TikTok user who attended the taping, the incident happened while Swift was chatting with Norton about her upcoming wedding plans, all while promoting her new album.

Turner-Smith, 39, allegedly interrupted the lighthearted banter to ask Swift, “And what about babies?”

The 35-year-old singer seemed to mishear the question at first, replying with a laugh, “Oh, no under-18s are coming, just adults.”

The actress quickly clarified her meaning, “No, no, I mean, are you going to have babies?”

At that point, Norton reportedly jumped in without missing a beat. He told Turner-Smith, “That’s an off-camera conversation to have,” before smoothly steering the discussion back on track.

The audience member described the exchange as “uncomfortable” but praised Norton for handling it with ease and professionalism.

The moment was later cut from the final broadcast.

On BBC Radio 2, she dismissed speculation that her marriage or potential motherhood would derail her music career, calling the assumption “ shockingly offensive.

She also laughed off similar questions during her TV promo run, choosing instead to gush about Kelce’s “10 out of 10” proposal and their shared passion for their careers.
