In December 2020, FKA Twigs revealed that she had suffered abuse from Shia LaBeouf and sued him for assault, sexual battery, and emotional distress after a year of dating.

She also cited incidents of being allegedly strangled and being psychologically manipulated by the filmmaker.  Twigs sued LaBeouf, but the two came to a private settlement for an undisclosed amount.

Two months after the settlement, the pop star commented for the first time on the end of the lengthy legal battle.

Twigs noted that while she doesn’t necessarily feel safe, she is pouring her attention into organizations that can help people like her who have been through similar ordeals.

“I feel really passionate about being involved with organizations such as Sistah Space and No More, to help survivors in any way that I can. I think it’s less about me at this point and more about looking forward. Just, you know, moving on with my life,” she added.

When she filed the lawsuit in 2020, Twigs described the ordeal as the “worst thing” she had ever been through in her life. She noted that it didn’t all happen all at once, but gradually over a period of time until she completely lost herself.
