Henry Cavill has hit an unexpected roadblock just as he was preparing to lead one of the biggest reboots in Hollywood.

The actor, best known for “Superman” and “The Witcher,” got hurt during training for the “Highlander” remake. The injury is serious enough that filming has been pushed back until 2026.

Fans who were excited to see Cavill pick up the sword as the new Connor MacLeod will now have to wait longer than planned.

According to Deadline, Henry Cavill was injured while training for the physically demanding role in “Highlander,” which is being directed by “John Wick” filmmaker Chad Stahelski.

While no details about the nature of the injury have been released, it’s severe enough to shut down production for the rest of the year.

Sources close to the project say cameras are unlikely to roll again until the start of 2026.

The 42-year-old star had been training hard for months to play MacLeod, the Scottish warrior who cannot die unless his head is cut off.

The role was first made famous by Christopher Lambert in the original 1986 film.

Cavill had teased his return to sword fighting earlier this year. “If you thought you’d seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet,” he said per the Daily Mail, referencing his fight-heavy role in “The Witcher.”

The film has a huge cast, including Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, and Marisa Abela.

With Stahelski at the helm, Cavill’s version of “Highlander” was shaping up to be a major blockbuster before the sudden delay.

For Henry Cavill, the “Highlander” reboot is more than just another movie; it is his chance to bring back a beloved story for a new generation.

The first “Highlander” movie told the tale of immortals locked in a secret battle across history, where the last fighter standing would gain incredible power.

Sean Connery played MacLeod’s mentor, and the film became a cult favorite, spawning sequels and a popular TV series in the 1990s.

This new version is written by Michael Finch and backed by some of the biggest producers in Hollywood, including Neal H. Moritz and Scott Stuber.

Amazon, MGM Studios, and United Artists secured the rights, with plans not only for a movie but also for possible series and spin-offs.

As The Blast reported, Henry Cavill and his partner were spotted enjoying a sweet, low-key moment with their rarely-seen baby during a stroll in Australia in January 2025, delighting fans who’ve long waited to catch a glimpse of their new family of three.

The pair, who have kept much of their private life out of the spotlight, were photographed pushing a baby stroller along Australia’s Gold Coast.

Henry Cavill Asks Fans For Fatherhood Tips

The outing comes months after the couple confirmed in April 2024 that they were expecting their first child, telling Access Hollywood, “Natalie and I are both very excited about it.”

Two months after the revelation, Cavill had fans smiling on Father’s Day when he shared his excitement about becoming a dad and asked for advice.

The “Superman” star posted a selfie on Instagram standing in the baby’s nursery.

He captioned the post, “Oh yeah…..and Happy Father’s Day ye dads out there. Turns out I shall be joining your hallowed ranks soon! Any tips??”

The doting dad even made a joke, saying the crib would be filled with “glue and scalpels” for building Warhammer miniatures instead of pillows.
