Nina Dobrev & Shaun White Call It Quits Almost A Year Into Engagement

Nina Dobrev won't be walking down the aisle as many expected following the end of her relationship with Shaun White.

The Canadian actress and the former professional snowboarder were together for five years, frequently stealing fans' hearts with their adorable displays of affection. However, a source recently confirmed they made the difficult decision to split.

The shocking update comes nearly a year after Shaun White popped the big question in October 2024. At the time, he shared pictures from the romantic proposal on Instagram, raving about how Nina Dobrev agreed to marry him.

A source close to the former couple broke the news of their split, telling PEOPLE Dobrev and White had parted ways amicably. "It was a mutual decision, and wasn't an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another," the source claimed.

The news came days after Dobrev and White were last photographed together on August 31, 2025. They were spotted holding hands while running errands in Los Angeles. The Canadian actress also hinted at trouble in their paradise at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.

At the September 7 event, Dobrev walked the red carpet for the "Eternity" movie debut without her signature diamond ring. Additionally, she unpinned the engagement post from her Instagram page, which had graced the top of her account since White proposed in October 2024.

Dobrev and White had a brief encounter at an awards show in 2012 but did not become acquainted until late 2019. They officially met through motivational speaker Tony Robbins, who had organized a Florida workshop. Dobrev and White decided to have dinner together afterwards.

White once confessed that he had no idea who Dobrev was when they met and was shocked by the number of people interested in taking pictures with her. Things between the pair kicked off after their dinner date, and they were caught months later enjoying a South African safari.

The then-couple had shared solo pictures from the trip on social media; however, internet sleuths realized they were in the same place. Naturally, the revelation sparked dating rumors that skyrocketed after reports confirmed Dobrev had invited White to visit the set of her movie "Redeeming Love."

Dobrev and White confirmed their relationship months later in April 2020 when they went Instagram official. They frequently kept fans in the loop about their relationship, sharing moments from their time together.

In February 2021, Dobrev and White made waves for going on a double date with the actress's "The Vampire Diaries" co-star, Paul Wesley, and his then-wife, Ines de Ramon. They went snowboarding at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Wyoming.

Dobrev also actively supported White's final performance at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and received a touching tribute from her partner. It wasn't a Christmas celebration without a tree, and Dobrev flaunted theirs adorned with lights, ornaments, and other festive decorations. "First Christmas as fiancées," she captioned the post, earning several messages from fans, who believed she had found true love.

Before White became a significant part of Dobrev's life, she was linked to famous figures like her co-star, Ian Somerhalder. The pair, who played love interests Elena and Damon on the supernatural drama series, dated from 2010 to 2013.

Dobrev found love again with "Dancing With the Stars" alum Derek Hough in September 2013. However, their whirlwind romance ended after six weeks. Five months later, the actress was seen cozying up to "The Hunger Games" star, Liam Hemsworth, per US Weekly.

She dated actor Austin Stowell for eight months starting in June 2015 and Glen Powell from January to November 2017. Dobrev's relationships with famous men continued with her 2018 romance with Grant Mellon, which ended in October 2019, months before her ties to White became public.
