Taylor Swift Inspires Rachel Platten To Re-Record Music, Announces 'Rachel's Version’ Release

Rachel Platten is ready to "reclaim" her music, and she's taking a page straight out of Taylor Swift's playbook. The "Fight Song" singer announced Monday that she will be re-recording her 2016 "Wildfire" album, with fresh takes on her biggest hits, including "Fight Song" and "Stand By You." The new project, dubbed "Rachel's Version," will drop September 26 and mark the 10th anniversary of her career-defining anthem.

In her lengthy Instagram caption, Platten gave credit where it was due, thanking Swift for sparking a movement among artists to regain ownership of their masters.

"I'm grateful to Taylor Swift for bringing this conversation to light and empowering artists to take back control over their work, their stories, and their futures," Platten wrote, unveiling the black-and-white cover art for "Fight Song (Rachel's Version)."

Swift famously began re-recording her albums in 2021 after her original masters were sold without her knowledge, before buying back her catalog earlier this year in a jaw-dropping $360 million deal.

Platten told fans this moment was about more than nostalgia, stressing the project's emotional weight.

"For a decade, [these songs] have lived out in the world, carrying their own weight. They've been parts of your moments of strength, doubt, and connection," Platten shared. "Now, as we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of 'Fight Song,' I've gone back to some of my originals, not to change them, but to reclaim them."

The singer added that the re-recordings will reflect the "voice I have now, the wisdom I've gained, and the undeniable pride of owning my own masters." She also teased "live songs and a surprise from the vault" as part of the album's release.

"Fight Song" became a global anthem after its 2015 release, climbing to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 with her album "Wildfire." The song gained an extra boost when Swift brought Platten onstage during the "1989 World Tour" in Philadelphia, introducing her to thousands of new fans. It later became a political anthem when Hillary Clinton used it during her 2016 presidential campaign.

To celebrate the milestone, Platten also announced a one-night-only live performance dedicated to the track that launched her into stardom.

"Thank you to all of you who have stood by me over these years," Platten wrote. "I can't wait for you to hear them again. This time, fully, completely, and unapologetically mine."

While the "Fight Song" singer is just beginning her journey to reclaim ownership of her catalog, Taylor Swift has already crossed the finish line.

In May, the Grammy winner penned an emotional letter on her website announcing she had officially purchased back her first six studio albums and associated visuals from Shamrock Capital, which had acquired the rights from Scooter Braun one year earlier, for an undisclosed nine-figure sum.

"To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it," Swift wrote, explaining that owning the rights to her life's work has brought her to tears.

Even as she celebrates owning her entire music catalog, Taylor Swift is already preparing for her next chapter. The superstar has multiple variants of her highly anticipated album, "The Life of a Showgirl," ready to roll out, but fans shouldn't expect any leaks before release day.

According to Daily Mail, Swift has enforced extreme security measures around the record, allowing only five people to hear it in full. That inner circle includes boyfriend Travis Kelce, with the album itself locked in an encrypted folder.

"Taylor vetted everyone who was involved in the record and only agreed to work with them if she could trust they wouldn't leak anything," an insider told the outlet. "Everyone, from the writers, producers, studio engineers, and interns, went through a rigorous vetting process. All signed NDAs and weren't even allowed to talk about their contributions with family and friends."

Some collaborators reportedly haven't even heard the finished product, as Swift was determined to keep the process under wraps while recording in Sweden. The source added, "She really wants to keep it safe for her fans."
