Crocs: they're the comfy shoe you either love or hate. And if you're in the "love" camp, you're in good company: celebs like Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian, and Nicki Minaj absolutely adore them. 

But the colorful clogs weren't always such a fashion darling. Dreamed up by three college friends during a sailing trip, Crocs were originally designed to be a comfortable boat shoe. 

For most of the early 2000s, they had a distinctly unglamorous image in the fashion world - not surprising for a crowd that loves a stiletto! Read on to see how Crocs conquered the A-list.

The popularity of Crocs soon skyrocketed far beyond the yacht club. 

Super comfy and available in a range of funky colors, they quickly gained fans among people who were on their feet all day, like nurses, teachers, or waiters.

But they also had a bit of an "uncool" rep, with Time Magazine naming them as one of the worst inventions in 2010. 

Everything changed in 2016, when a Christopher Kane collection hit the runway at London Fashion Week.  Fans were soon obsessed, with Nicki Minaj even having a favorite pink pair.

Crocs's meteoric rise from drab to fab was in no small part thanks to their celebrity collaborations, with even Post Malone designing a pair. 

Once seen as something your rather unfashionable granny would wear, the humble Croc is now gracing the feet of the rich and beautiful, with even Kim Kardashian sporting a rather weird KFC-inspired pair.

But, when he decided to send Victoria Beckham a pair, the famously "posh" star had a rather strong reaction

'OK, this is so kind of Justin to send me some Crocs. Never worn a pair of Crocs. This did make me laugh. I mean, it is the thought that counts. Thank you so much.'
