Inside Lindsey Buckingham & Kristen Messner's 21-Year Relationship

Lindsey Buckinghamis a 71-year-old American singer, songwriter, and producer, best known as the lead guitarist and one of the three singers of Fleetwood Mac. The music legend also has six solo albums to his name, along with three live albums.

Although he and his wife, Kristen Messner, have been together for 21 years, the couple recently made headlines when they announced that they were going their separate ways.

Buckingham is also known for his highly public relationship with singer-songwriter, Stevie Nicks, who joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 when she and Buckingham started dating.

Although the two first met as high schoolers, their relationship dissolved when Nicks stated that Buckingham wanted her "all to himself” and began to show possessive behavior. Eventually, Nicks referred to their relationship as “a living nightmare.”

"He and I were about as compatible as a boa constrictor and a rat,” she said during one interview.

Buckingham married Messner in 2000. The pair had met four years earlier, in 1996, when she worked as a photographer for one of his solo albums.

Messner seems to have an eye for art, as she also works as an interior decorator. She revealed that living in the Los Angeles area has helped her inspiration by “giving great attention to indoor/outdoor living spaces. Also, the flow from inside to outdoors.”

She has also made some fantastic real estate deals. After originally purchasing a home for $5.8 million, Messner remodeled it and sold it for $19 million in 2018.

The couple has three children together.

Their first child, William Gregory, was born in 1998, two years before the couple got married. The second child was a daughter named Leelee, born in 2001, and their third child was a daughter named Stella, who was born in 2004.

Buckingham once revealed that he had waited to start a family after seeing how the rock star lifestyle impacted other families he met.  

“I had a lot of crazy girlfriends, and a lot of that was just an outgrowth of the lifestyle we were all leading,” he said. “I did see a lot of friends who were parents and spouses — back in previous decades — who weren’t really there and kind of screwed up their kids and were not there for their family situations. So I waited and I was lucky enough to meet someone relatively late…it’s worked out really well. I got all that other garbage out of the way.”

Not many details are known about their divorce at this point. Messner filed the legal documents in Los Angeles to dissolve their marriage, but it’s unclear if the pair have discussed any terms.
