Dove Cameron is getting up close and personal about her split from long-time boyfriend and ‘Descendants’ co-star, Thomas Doherty.

Cameron and Doherty dated from 2016 to 2020 and officially broke things off last December.

While Cameron has put on a brave face during Zoom interviews and virtual sit-downs, the actress and songstress admits that is was VERY hard.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight Cameron revealed the breakup really “f***ed me up.”

She said, “It was really hard, and I needed something that was going to get me from where I was, in the mourning process, into the other side."

That’s where her song “LazyBaby” comes into play.

The triple threat poured her heart and soul into the song to help cope with the breakup.

"'LazyBaby' is about a breakup, or well, it follows post-breakup. I went through a very public breakup last year, and I was in a really bad place, like a really, really bad place," said Cameron.

The split happened while Covid-19 still had the world shut down and Cameron was far away from friends and family. She revealed she was in Canada at the time of the breakup and was not able to leave, and her support system was unable to travel to be with her.

"I was alone, and it was during the pandemic. No one could come out and see me and I couldn't leave Canada, and everything was shut down," Dove revealed. "So I was really struggling to work through that."

Eventually the blonde beauty was able to work through her emotions with music. She channeled all of her emotions into “LazyBaby” a song which she describes as “kind of satirical, comedic and uplifting.”

Unlike most people, Cameron admitted that she's able to move on when she can laugh at her pain.

"I do best when I can laugh at my pain. The song really helped me get from one place to the next, with the break-up," she told the outlet.

As for her relationship with her ex, turns out things are pretty amicable!

So much so that Doherty and Cameron still text to this day.

She said Doherty is a big fan of the song and listens to it all the time. Cameron even sent him the song prior to its release.

According to Cameron, Doherty still sends her voice notes all the time.

Doherty is currently dating model Yasmin Wijnaldum, and the couple made their first public appearance on May 31 at The Grazia Gazette: The Hamptons.

Cameron was reportedly getting close to Alexander 23. He made an appearance at the end of her “LazyBaby” music video, and the two can be seen canoodling and even shared a passionate kiss.

At the time of the video’s release, sources close to Cameron said it was nothing serious and super casual.
