Tia Mowry is opening up about why she calls herself a single mom despite being criticized for using the title.
In 2023, the "Sister Sister" star finalized her divorce from Cory Hardrict, ending their 14-year marriage. The former couple share a 14-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter, whom they continue to co-parent.
However, the actress stuck to the single mom title, which has earned her backlash. Now, Mowry responds to the backlash with a different narrative about sole parenting.
Tia Mowry Sets The Record Straight About Being A Single Mom

The mom of two took to Instagram with a 16-slide post of videos and write-ups to address the negative comments. The first slide featured a selfie of the movie producer, accompanied by the question, "Why do I get backlash for calling myself a single mom?" written over it.
Mowry followed the question with explanations written over a video of her feet walking on sand. The "Seventeen Again" actress noted that she was speaking "her truth," expressing that the concept of family was allowed to have different interpretations.
She wrote, "Family can look different than what we imagined and still be full of love, stability, and joy."
In the next slide, the actress emphasized that a single mom doesn't always mean the absence of a father. She stated, "For me, in my household, I am SINGLE. I don't have a partner, so l'm holding it down for everyone at home. I'm the only parent present day to day."

Mowry continued her detailing on Instagram with a confession on how she felt about her family after her separation from Hardrict.
The actress wrote her admissions over a video of her walking in the water. "I remember those first nights after my world shifted. I cried. I felt guilt. I felt shame. I asked myself, 'Are we still a family?' Looking back now, I know we always were."
The 47-year-old reality star followed up with a teaching on family dynamics that needs to be "normalized." Over a video of her holding her kids, Mowry noted that divorced parents don't mean a broken family.
In another clip of her with her two kids, the singer pointed out that her children are her top priority. She further advised other parents to be present in their children's lives and not make them feel they have to "choose between parents."
For the concluding part of the post, the "Twitches" actress left a takeaway word for everyone. She penned, "Being a single mom isn't one way or one story. There are so many nuances."
Fans Support Tia Mowry's Opinions About Single Motherhood

Fans reacted to Mowry's candidness with heartwarming comments and support. One fan remarked, "True! Happy, healthy families really do come in all forms. Thanks for speaking to it and doing your part to embody this truth."
A second user wrote, "Technically, she's right. She's literally a mom who is single." Another person shared similar thoughts, writing, "Technically, you are a single mom because the kids live with you even though you co-parent."
A third observer pointed out, "Redefining what a single mom means for YOU is why you got the backlash."
Tia Mowry Previously Admitted That Co-parenting Is Hard

Mowry's candid post on being a single mom comes seven months after she detailed the challenges of co-parenting with her ex-husband on holidays.
As The Blast reported, the mom of two shared that holidays looked different from what she was used to because of the separation.
In her post on Instagram celebrating Christmas, she wrote, "Co-parenting during the holidays is a journey-one that's filled with a mix of emotions. It's different, and yes, it can feel challenging and even lonely at times, especially when you're adjusting to a new family dynamic."
Although the "Detention" star admitted to struggling with co-parenting, she highlighted the positive impact of the new phase. According to her, it allowed her children to "build meaningful relationships with both parents."
Would The 'Sister Sister' Star Allow Her Kids To Be Child Stars?

It is no news that the Disney star is protective of her kids, and the chances of them stepping into the spotlight she once did as a child may be unlikely.
Last month, Mowry talked about the dark side of child fame. She recalled that growing up in front of the cameras was "tough." You're still figuring out who you are, and everyone has an opinion."
Mowry further emphasized that kids need to experience childhood. "I also think kids need space to just be kids and learn who they are."
