Donald Trump's supporters aren't letting Stephen Colbert think he ate with his clap-back at the president's scathing comments.
The late-night talk show host is famous for being one of Trump's biggest critics, which is why many were unsurprised by the politician's decision to target Colbert at his lowest. However, the TV personality's response did not win him any fans.
Stephen Colbert lost his position as the longtime host of CBS' "The Late Show" last Thursday. The network revealed he would conclude his chapter with them in May 2026, blaming the end of his beloved program on financial reasons.
Stephen Colbert Attempts To Play Off Donald Trump's Mocking Remarks

The latest episode of Colbert's late-night talk show began with him responding to Trump's Truth Social post with a comeback. A clip of his monologue went viral on X, with the host addressing the live audience in his best impression of the president's voice.
"On Friday, Donald Trump posted, 'I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings,'" Colbert began, with the crowd playing along by booing the POTUS. "How dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism? Go f-ck yourself!" He added.
Colbert's attempt to play off Trump's words fell flat with social media users, who criticised him for attacking the president. "What a sore loser. He had a staff of over 200 people, a budget of over $100 million, and was paid over $16 million a year. All while the show was losing $40 MILLION A YEAR!" Someone argued, citing CBS's reasons for canceling the show.

The support for Trump continued with an X user noting Colbert had no one to blame but himself. "Make some money and don't shit-talk your bosses while losing money for those who fund you. Problem solved," the individual stressed. Another echoed similar sentiments, writing:
"Bro acts like he's the resistance, but he's basically just a smug screensaver for wine moms who think clapping counts as activism."
"You know he WAS talented at one point... that's the sad part of all this," a fan lamented. Other critics did not sympathize with Colbert's situation, with someone implying that he was the last person who should troll Trump.
"One guy has a job. The other guy doesn't have a job lmao," they mocked the TV personality.
"I never watched a single episode of this unfunny, hacky bullsh-t... Every clip I ever saw came off like the corniest sh-t I've ever seen. Straight up, half of it sounded like the banter on the local news. Not even remotely funny or interesting," an X user claimed.
What Did Trump Say About Colbert's Show?

Following the cancellation of Colbert's late-night talk show, Trump addressed the incident on his Truth Social platform. He bluntly mocked his TV nemesis as talentless and having poor ratings, using the opportunity also to slam his other TV critic, Jimmy Kimmel.
The Blast reported that Trump claimed Kimmel had "less talent than Colbert!" and labeled Greg Gutfeld the best of all three combined. Unlike the support he recently received, social media users criticized him for trolling Colbert at his lowest point.
Conspiracy theorists believed the White House ruler had abused his power to get Colbert's show cancelled, while some fans criticized him for being petty. Meanwhile, others praised Colbert for standing his ground and never bending the knee to Trump.
The Comedian Responded To His Show's Cancellation With Humor

The first episode of the late-night program since CBS announced its cancellation captured Colbert doing what he does best: being a comedian. He performed a spoof of the viral Coldplay kiss cam scandal with "Weird Al" Yankovic, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and other celebrities.
The satire performance also included an animated version of Trump hugging the Paramount logo, referencing Colbert's previous comments about CBS's parent company. He had called out the organisation for agreeing to settle a lawsuit filed by the president for $16 million.
Coincidentally, CBS announced the cancellation of Colbert's show after his biting remarks about Paramount. He mocked their financial excuse for shutting down his program in the montage, perBusiness Insider, saying: "The network has lost, and I don't know how this is possible, $40 million to $50 million."
Jon Stewart Fears He's Next Following Stephen Colbert's Exit

The cancellation of Colbert's talk show shocked many in the entertainment industry, including hosting veteran Jon Stewart. The Blast covered his reaction to the news, reporting that he feared he could be axed from his gig at Comedy Central, whose parent company was Paramount.
"Unfortunately, we haven't heard anything from them. They haven't called me and said like, 'Don't get too comfortable in that office, Stewart!'" the comedian said, adding that he had "been kicked out of sh-ttier establishments than that" and would always land on his feet.
Despite his attempt to play off a possible exit, Stewart could not hide his anxiousness. He stressed that his program, "The Daily Show," was a significant part of Comedy Central and without it, the network would have nothing to offer.
"I think we're the only sort of life that exists on a current basis other than 'South Park,'" he claimed.
