Billy Joelis opening up about one of the most complicated chapters of his life in his new documentary, "Billy Joel: And So It Goes."
The music legend talked about his affair with the wife of his best friend and bandmate, Jon Small, saying he felt like a "homewrecker."
Billy Joel was recently diagnosed with a brain condition, which forced him to cancel his scheduled concerts.
Billy Joel Felt 'Very Guilty' About The Affair With His Best Friend's Wife

Several decades after Billy Joel and his longtime friend and bandmate Jon Small fell out over the singer's relationship with Small's then-wife, Elizabeth Weber, his new documentary has offered an inside look at the entire drama.
At the time Joel developed a connection with Weber, he was living with Small, and the two were a duo called Attila, who were just starting their careers.
Weber was also reportedly unhappy in her marriage to Small, which was the reason she began spending more and more time with Joel.
As emotions began to spill over, Joel knew he had to tell his friend rather than keep hiding it. And when he did, he was compelled to face the consequences of his actions.
"I was just in love with a woman, and I got punched in the nose, which I deserved," Joel said, per Fox News. "I felt very, very guilty about it. They had a child, you know? I felt like a homewrecker."
How The Legendary Musician's Best Friend Reacted To The Affair

Leading up to the big reveal, Small had noticed that Joel had changed, but he had no idea what might have caused it.
Ultimately, he realized that it was his friend's affair with his wife that had caused the signs he had observed, leaving him quite devastated by the discovery.
"I kept seeing that Billy was not the same guy. Something was the matter, and Billy one day came up to me, became a little honest and said to me, 'I'm in love with your wife.' So, it was a very devastating thing for me because these were basically my two best friends," Small revealed in the documentary.
"He's crying, and he's telling me he feels so bad, and he didn't know what to do about it," Small continued. "How does he break his best friend's heart? But he said she was so powerful to him that it was worth it to him to lose our friendship for it."
Billy Joel Was Married To Elizabeth Weber For Nearly A Decade

Although the revelation brought an end to Joel's friendship with Small for a time, the singer and Weber eventually married in 1973 after briefly breaking up amid the controversy.
Their marriage, however, only lasted nearly a decade. It ultimately ended because Joel refused to give up his love for motorcycles, despite Weber's repeated warnings, per Fox News.
"Elizabeth had warned me, she said, 'Be careful, be careful, 'cause you're going to have an accident,'" Joel recalled in the doc, adding his love for motorcycles left Weber "scared all the time."
Elizabeth Weber Left The Singer After His Traumatic Motorcycle Accident

When Joel suffered a traumatic accident while riding a motorcycle, it became Weber's cue to leave the marriage.
"I would've stayed, I would've been able — like so many women before me — to make that accommodation for someone you love, but there was no way that I could stand by and watch him kill himself," Weber revealed about their 1982 split.
She added, "I just didn't have that in me. And I felt very strongly that that's what was going."
After splitting from Weber, Joel had other relationships and is currently in his fourth marriage.
Billy Joel Is Suffering From A Brain Condition

Now, in his later years, Joel has been diagnosed with a brain condition, normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), which forced him to cancel all of his scheduled concerts.
It is now in doubt whether he will perform again, although longtime associate and executive producer of the documentary, Steve Cohen, recently revealed that the decision is entirely up to Joel.
"I always look at it as a gift when he walks on stage," Cohen told Fox News. "I can't predict… it's up to him. If he feels like he wants to, you know, 'play' Billy Joel on stage again, we're all gonna be there for him."
He added, "I can't predict whether he's gonna wanna do it. Look, he's got two beautiful kids. His daughter's now turning 10. He's got a great wife. He's got a great life. Like, he's 76. He doesn't have to do sh-t. And he's giving the fans something in this documentary that they can enjoy more of. So, I don't know, fingers crossed."
