According to TMZ, "Big Brother" 27 houseguest Isaiah "Zae" Frederich was caught on the show's live feeds using an offensive slur while playing a game of chess with fellow contestant Keanu Soto.

"Oh sh-t I'm a f-cking r-tard," Frederich said, before adding, "D-mn, I shouldn't say that word."

It seems Soto felt similarly about Frederich's usage of the offensive slur, adding, "No, you shouldn't."

Frederich admitted that before entering the "Big Brother" house, the aforementioned slur was a word he was trying to remove from his vocabulary.

"That's one of the ones I was working on not saying," he told Soto, who replied, "I think you're good ... you're lucky it's late."

However, eagle-eyed fans caught the moment and immediately began sharing it online, sparking a strong reaction online.

One user acknowledged Frederich's earlier statement about working on removing the offensive slur from his everyday rotation, writing, "God knows what the other slurs were."

Another user clearly agreed, posting, "What is problematic is saying that was ONE of the words you were working on, NOT saying."

They added, "So he's aware he says inappropriate words, BUT only feels they're inappropriate when being filmed 24 hours."

A third user commented, "People dropping the 'R' word as a slur is legit infuriating," while another wrote, "As someone who's been called the 'R' word all his life, it's not a word to drop. At all."

They continued, "I don't understand how he doesn't know how that word is communicated to a certain community, but [of course] he won't be ejected because he's white."

'Big Brother' Has Removed Contestants Before For Using Inappropriate Language

This isn't the first time fans have expressed their disappointment with "Big Brother" contestants for using inappropriate language.

During "Big Brother" 25, houseguest Luke Valentine, an illustrator from Florida, was expelled from the game for using the N-word—an incident that viewers saw play out on the live feeds.

In a statement, CBS said, "Luke violated the 'BIG BROTHER' code of conduct, and there is zero tolerance in the house for using a racial slur. He has been removed from the house. His departure will be addressed [on the] show."

Valentine Understood The Network's Position

While answering questions on Instagram, Valentine admitted he wasn't "upset [with] production," but felt there was a better way to handle the situation.

"It is upsetting. I think they made the wrong decision. I think a slap on the wrist would have been a much better thing," he said.

Valentine also addressed his use of the word, admitting he had "no ill intent."

"It was directed at Cory, and it was after about a week of malnutrition, a week of sleep deprivation, I was getting probably two-and-a half hours of sleep on that cheese block," he said. "And you don't really take into account the psychological distress of being under studio lighting for 24/7 and not knowing who your friends and who your enemies are," he continued. "So what happened happened. Do I regret it? Obviously. But I feel like it happened for a reason."

Other Reality Stars Have Faced Similar Backlash In 2025

Frederich isn't the only reality star who has faced backlash after using language others have deemed inappropriate and offensive.

Two "Love Island" contestants, Yulissa Escobar and Cierra Ortega, were removed from the villa during season 7 over their past use of racial slurs.

Another "Love Island" contestant, Austin Shepard, received similar backlash over reported TikTok videos that featured problematic language.

On July 5, Shepard apologized for videos on his profile, saying, "I genuinely didn't think before sharing that content."

"I recognize that my choice of content did not resonate well with everyone, and for that, I sincerely apologize," Shepard added in his apology post. "I'm committed to learning from this experience and to being more mindful in the future. Thank you for your understanding and for holding me accountable."

He finished, "Love you all [and] thank you so much for an incredible experience."
