According to multiple sources, Turpin was arrested on July 6 and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of marijuana.
Turpin was later released from custody after posting his $1,500 bond.
Renowned Dallas Cowboys reporter Mike Fisher stated the athlete's bond was $500 for the marijuana charge and $1,000 for the unlawful weapon charge.
NFL Player Was Allegedly Driving Recklessly Before Being Pulled Over By Texas Police

In a report from TMZ, the Allen Police Department alleged Turpin was pulled over around 11:50 PM on July 5 in Texas after he was clocked driving 97 MPH in a 70 MPH zone.
The police report also claims that law enforcement noticed an "unholstered 9 MM pistol in plain view" in the back of Turpin's 2022 Dodge.
Allen police officers further claimed to have found two ounces of marijuana in the center console of Turpin's car.

Turpin had a spectacular year in the NFL during the 2024-25 season, leading the league in kickoff return yards and yards per return, with 994 and 33.5, respectively.
According to DallasCowboys.com, Turpin was the only player in the NFL during the 24-25 season with both a kickoff and punt return for a touchdown.
Turpin's performance helped secure him an $18 million, three-year contract, making him the highest-paid special-teams player in NFL history. His journey in the NFL has been inspiring to many, considering that before joining the league, he played indoor football with the FCF and was the USFL's MVP in 2022.
The Louisiana native's arrest sparked strong reactions from NFL fans online, with one writing, "EVERY YEAR! Players for the COWGIRLS think they're invincible in Dallas, apparently. EVERY YEAR!"
Another wrote, "Get a gun permit. These guys are truly remedial. Texas is one of the most gun-friendly states, too."
Other fans, however, defended the professional athlete, with one user writing, "Isn't it a requirement to own a gun in TX? And weed? Give me a break."
Someone else posted, "He got caught with legal Hemp and a legal firearm bought from legal stores across Texas."
Turpin Has Been Arrested Before

Despite some football fans' differing opinions on Turpin's arrest, this is not the first time he's been in trouble with the law.
In 2018, Turpin was dismissed from the Texas Christian University (TCU) football team for assaulting his girlfriend and later pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily injury.
According to witnesses at Turpin's Texas complex, they saw the 5'7" athlete "manhandle" a woman "by grabbing her from behind with one arm across her neck, her feet dragging as she kicked and yelled at him."
Turpin was sentenced to two years deferred adjudication probation and had to complete a 27-week Partner Abuse Intervention Program through SafeHaven of Tarrant County, per NBCDFW.
"While KaVontae Turpin may have been a star on the football field, his actions here are unacceptable and will not [be] tolerated," said prosecutor Lloyd Whelchel. "Turpin was held accountable for his conduct, and will have the next two years to reflect on what he has done."
Another Football Player Was Recently Arrested For Allegedly Causing A Disturbance In Kentucky

And Turpin isn't the only NFL-affiliated individual who has recently been arrested.
According to a previous report from The Blast, Adam "Pacman" Jones, who played for the Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals was arrested in early June 2025 and charged with intoxication in a public place, disorderly conduct, and assault on a police officer, after clashing with employees at a bar in Covington, KY.
"The Covington Police Department takes incidents of this nature very seriously. We are committed to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of all who live in or visit Covington," the police department's statement read. "Adam Jones is being held to the same standard of conduct as any other individual in our community."
Jones was released from jail on June 7, 2025, after posting $10,000 bond.
