What would you have paid for real hair from the gold locks of Kurt Cobain? It turns out that real hair from the legendary Nirvana frontman was auctioned off last weekend and was sold to a bidder who ultimately paid $14,145.00 for the strands of hair.
This is not the first time that some type of Cobain memorabilia finds its way to auction houses in the last couple of months. By all accounts, none of the proceeds go to the remaining family members of the late musician.

What went up for auction were a couple of strands of Cobain's hair with a few pictures that seem to prove that the hair on display was actually Cobain's. Apparently, the hair was cut from Cobain's head in 1989 by friend Tessa Osbourne.
She is the woman that can be seen in the pictures that accompany the hair with a pair of scissors with Cobain with his arm around here. The pictures are not the only proof that the hair is for real.

The hair comes with a certificate from the World's Largest Collection of Historic Hair by John Reznikoff. If you're looking for legit celebrity hair these are the guys that you want to talk to.
The hair though has racked up considerable airline miles since it left Kurt's head back in 1989 in England. The story goes that Tessa Osbourne gave the hair to Nicole DePolo a Seattle-based artist. Upon the death of Cobain as a token to remember him by. John Reznikoff picked up the hair from her!

The 14k price tag was probably not what the largest Collection of Historic hair by John Reznikoff was hoping for. Although hair doesn't go for the million-dollar price tags that other items particularly from deceased artists do. The 14k price tag is sadly far from a world record.
The most expensive strands of human hair ever sold came from the head of "The King" Elvis Presley himself. His hair sold for 115,120 pounds or 162872.35 dollars in today's exchange rate. Cobain's hair was obviously nowhere near that mark.

Recently it was announced that Kurt Cobain was getting the NFT treatment. Pictures from his last photoshoot were to be sold as an NFT. The current bid on that collection is 50ETH. That's around 167149.50 dollars in today's value.
The collection is certainly having a bigger impact than Kurt's actual hair. That can sum up how society has changed for you. Then again the hair relic is a bit eerie. There's an amp used by Nirvana for auction with the same auction house that sold the hair though. That'll set you back around 100k, but you'll get to have a piece of history!
