In February 2020, hip-hop lost one of his brightest upcoming stars in Brooklyn rapper, Pop Smoke. Smoke was tragically shot and killed at the young age of 20 in a Hollywood Hills home owned by "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star, Teddi Mellencamp and her husband, Edwin Arroyave. Robbers broke into the residence around 4AM and ended up holding a woman at gunpoint and caught Smoke leaving the shower. From that point, Smoke was shot and kicked. When he tried to escape, the deadly shots were fired.

Four suspects ended up being arrested and charged with murder last summer as two of them were listed as minors. The one who fired the deadly shots at Smoke ended up being a 15-year-old boy. According to Complex, an officer was in disguise as a gang member at a juvenile detention center and that's when the teen detailed what happened that night and how he took Smoke's life in Hollywood Hills. This information was revealed in a preliminary hearing for 20-year-old suspect, Corey Walker. In this report, an officer was also able to get Walker to admit his involvement.

The report also added how Walker revealed that he and four "youngsters" drove to the Airbnb residence and were also part of the "Hoover Criminals." Items that the suspects brought were gloves, masks, and also a police scanner to avoid authorities during the burglary/robbery. Walker also reportedly gave the 15-year-old shooter a gun which he labeled as "the heat" and another one of the suspects with "the burner." Walker supposedly waited in the car though and didn't want the other robbers to use his gun.

During the break-in at this luxury home, the robbers wanted Smoke's jewelry and that ended up happening after the 15-year-old suspect was able to take the rapper's life. They ended up stealing a Cuban link chain along with a diamond Rolex. Surprisingly, this watch ended up being sold after the murder for only $2,000. Pop Smoke fans on social media have since questioned why his life was taken over such a small amount of money.

Despite Smoke losing his life, his music career and legacy lived on. Prior to his death, he won big with his "Meet The Woo 2" mixtape 10 days prior and in the summer, his posthumous debut studio album was released. This was "Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon." It soon debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and was led by platinum hits such as "What You Know Bout Love," "The Woo" feat. 50 Cent and Roddy Ricch, and "For The Night" feat. DaBaby and Lil Baby.
