Miley Cyrus found herself at the center of a wave of backlash following the film premiere of her "Something Beautiful" project.

Much of the criticism began at the event itself, when fans, who believed they were attending a concert, were shocked to discover it was simply a traditional film screening. Afterward, a viral video of the event spread online, sparking further outrage from some attendees.

Amid the controversy, some fans have come to Miley Cyrus' defense, criticizing the upset audience members for not doing their due diligence to understand the nature of the event beforehand.

On June 6, Miley Cyrus held a film premiere for "Something Beautiful, a project that had been highly anticipated by many of her fans.

The singer, who attended the event dressed in a bedazzled, body-hugging gown with thin straps, arrived in high spirits while waving to fans with a smile.

She even took a moment to joke with photographers on the red carpet, just before the event began.

However, what was meant to be a celebration ahead of the theatrical release of the project quickly turned chaotic when fans, who had mistaken the event for a concert, realized that it wasn't the case.

As seen in a now-viral clip, one bold fan then called out the singer from the crowd, saying, "We thought this was a concert! We paid $800! Are you actually going to sing?"

Some also echoed similar sentiments that altered the singer's mood. Though Cyrus eventually broke into an a cappella performance of "The Climb" to appease the upset attendee and others who felt similarly, it appeared to fall short of satisfying many of these disappointed fans.

It is worth noting that Cyrus never advertised her film premiere as a concert. However, disgruntled fans may have been misled into believing the singer would be performing at the event due to false advertisements from third-party resale sites, as seen in a screenshot posted online, which are unaffiliated with Cyrus.

Unsurprisingly, some of these fans took to social media to slam the singer, accusing her of scamming them out of their hard-earned funds.

One angry individual claimed that they had spent thousands of dollars flying in with their daughters to attend the event and now wants their money back.

"This was advertised as a CONCERT," the fan said. "This was a rip-off. I want my money back and an apology. FALSE ADVERTISING x100! All the people in the lobby were angry at being scammed."

Another irate fan claimed she spent her "rent" money to purchase what she thought were "concert" tickets.

The fan penned, "False advertising 1000%. My favorite artist of all time, I couldn't be more disappointed. You failed everyone at the beacon tonight…"

One more fan claimed that Cyrus didn't make it clear that it was a film and not a concert.

They added, "[I] never felt more scammed paying hundreds for something that was basically a marathon viewing of music videos. Something Beautiful? Something Scammy?

In the wake of the backlash, some individuals defended Cyrus and branded the reaction from disgruntled fans as "disrespectful."

"This makes me mad. We already know about her vocal issues. People are so disrespectful. Props for Miley for evening singing, I know she was irritated by that," someone said.

"I don't care if you paid $3,000 - why would you disrespect someone like that, especially if you're that big of a 'fan'...? You clearly did not read the site or were ripped off by a reseller," a netizen commented.

"I'm just so sad… her face. How do people have the guts to be this rude to her? Like, seriously, people, have you no respect for her feelings? She's giving us so much this era. This is just unacceptable," another fan said.

The Singer Once Raised Eyebrows Over Her Comments About Touring

In 2023, Cyrus received similar backlash over her comments about not desiring to get back on the road.

"Singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn't really the thing that I love. There's no connection. There's no safety," she said at the time in an interview with British Vogue. "It's also not natural. It's so isolating because if you're in front of 100,000 people, then you are alone."

Her remarks were deemed as her not being appreciative of her fans, which the singer later refuted in an Instagram post.

"This has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the fans and everything to do with I simply don't want to get ready in a locker room," she wrote. "I just don't want to sleep on a moving bus. It isn't what's best for me right NOW."

During a recent chat with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Cyrus opened up about the importance of sobriety in her life. It has been over five years since she first explored a sober lifestyle in 2019.

Sharing a powerful reflection, the "Hannah Montana" star shared: "I've learned this about myself over the years. Sobriety is—that's like my God. I need it, I live for it. It's changed my entire life."

While Cyrus had previously acknowledged relapsing during the pandemic, a moment she discussed with Lowe in 2020, the singer now looks back on that period with clarity and acceptance.

Reflecting on her "Plastic Hearts" era, she said: "I was so close to who is sitting here right now, but life had more to teach me."

Cyrus added, "It had more lessons for me. I know I needed to fall one more time. It just never would've happened this way. I just wouldn't have been sitting here. There were times between last time and now, you know they hurt, I'm not proud of them, definitely not my best moments, not some of my best work—you know any of that."
