Taylor Swift’s music catalog became the center of a major industry controversy in 2019 when Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings acquired Big Machine Label Group, which owned the masters of Swift’s first six albums.

The deal happened without Swift’s involvement, sparking outrage from the singer, who claimed she had been denied the chance to purchase her own work.

The 35-year-old publicly criticized the sale and Braun’s role in it, calling the situation her “worst-case scenario.”

In a surprising twist, Braun later sold the catalog to a private equity firm, Shamrock Holdings, for over $300 million. Swift again voiced disapproval, stating she was not consulted and that Braun would continue profiting from the deal.
