As the Met Gala 2025 event went on, a group of bold stars, including rapper Megan Thee Stallion, defiantly broke Anna Wintour’s strict no-phones and no-social media rule.
In a lively Instagram clip, Megan acknowledged the rule but playfully confessed, “We are doing it [anyway].” She shared glimpses of the lavish appetizers while seated with fellow rapper Doechii and WNBA star Angel Reese.
Her post, humorously captioned "Hottie Cam in thee MET GALA," also featured cameos from celebrities like Tracee Ellis Ross, Doja Cat, and Sha’Carri Richardson.
The fun continued as Megan captured moments with “Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, and tennis legend Serena Williams.
Megan, donning a custom outfit by designer Michael Kors, playfully revealed, “I snuck my phone in,” further showcasing her adventurous spirit at one of fashion’s most prestigious events.

Megan will not face Miss Wintour’s wrath alone. Grammy winner and South African musician Tyla also captured a selfie with Shakira and quickly shared it on her Instagram Story. According to Page Six, she shared the iconic picture with her 11.2 million Instagram followers.
Record producer Questlove also decided to boldly use his cell phone at the event, attempting to discreetly snap a selfie with a group of friends in the restroom.
Among the famous faces in his selfie were Met Gala 2025 co-chairs Domingo and Hamilton. The trio was joined by other notable figures like Ellis Ross, Evan Ross, Erivo, Tramell Tillman, Quinta Brunson, and Sarah Snook.
In a lighter moment, “Espresso” singer Sabrina Carpenter could be seen chatting with former “Late Late Show” host James Corden in the background of one of Questlove’s videos.

Wintour has been in charge of the Met Gala since 1995 and is known for strictly enforcing a no-phones policy at the event. Vogue points out that guests are expected to refrain from using their phones once they enter the museum, as the details of the evening are generally kept secret.
The Met Gala opens its doors yearly to hundreds of Hollywood’s best dressed to showcase their fashion prowess according to the year’s theme.
Despite this rule, many attendees have shared glimpses of the gala on social media, treating the policy as more of a suggestion. The event typically includes cocktails, dinner, performances, and an opportunity for attendees to explore the exhibition.
Although the exact consequences for breaking the rule are unclear, it is rumored that celebrities who disregard the policy might jeopardize their invitations to future galas by a prolific fashion editor.
The 76-Year-Old Battled Calls To Step Down As Met Gala Chair

Two years ago, actress Julia Fox publicly criticized Wintour and the Met Gala, condemning the event as "stale" and reflective of privilege. The Blast noted that Fox voiced her discontent over the lack of inclusivity, lamenting that the guest list had not embraced diversity in a long time.
Fox also expressed her disappointment with the gala's tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld, whom she accused of promoting ideals of "supremacy and imperialism."
Despite her rising popularity in both the entertainment and fashion industries, Fox pointed out that she has never received an invitation to the Met Gala, subtly scrutinizing Wintour's leadership. She candidly stated, "To be honest, the Met Gala has never spoken to me. I mean, look at who is running it.”
She then called for Wintour's resignation, suggesting that new leadership could rejuvenate the event. Fox further slammed Wintour for using the gala as a platform for excessive displays of wealth and privilege.
The “Uncut Gems” actress questioned how long Wintour would continue in the role. She also remarked that American Vogue has shifted focus from art to commerce under Wintour's direction.
Anna Wintour Was Dragged In Her Old Friend’s Tell-All Book

The backlash did not end with Fox; she also battled several revelations from her former friend, André Leon, in his memoir “The Chiffon Trenches.”
In a revealing account, the late former editor-at-large of Vogue shared the complexities of his long-standing friendship with the former fashion editor. His revelations detailed the "huge emotional and psychological scars" he endured throughout their decades of collaboration.
In his book, he did shy away from criticizing Wintour, claiming she lacks basic "human kindness" and shows little regard for anyone outside the circles of power and fame typical of Vogue's pages.
Talley also pinpointed 2016 as a turning point in their relationship, coinciding with his role in hosting a popular Vogue podcast featuring celebrity guests.
Despite her guests flouting her golden rules, Anna Wintour’s event was still a massive success!
