Luka Doncic Funds Restoration Effort After Kobe And Gigi Bryant Mural Vandalized In LA

Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic is helping Kobe and Gigi Bryant's legacy by donating the entire cost to restore a vandalized mural in downtown LA.

An Instagram page dedicated to Kobe and Gigi's murals shared the sad news yesterday that one of the murals in downtown LA was vandalized. A GoFundMe page to raise funds to restore the mural over time was started last month. On Tuesday, after word that the mural was vandalized, Doncic became the top donor with a donation of $5,000.

On Monday, Instagram account, KobeMural, shared the devastating news that a mural of Kobe and his daughter Gianna, known as Gigi, was vandalized.

"Unfortunately, one of the first Kobe and Gigi murals has been vandalized in Downtown Los Angeles," they wrote in the caption of a video showing the mural on Instagram.

"We’re sharing to bring awareness to the community of fans here in LA, and around the world, who respect and appreciate artists and their mural tributes. Visit our bio link or IG story for a GoFundMe to help donate to the restoration and protection for the mural. Any amount helps."

Fans took to the comments to share their anger and sadness over the iconic mural's destruction.

"I don’t claim to know the rules of the game but anybody in or remotely proud of L.A. should know better. This is Kobe Bryant, the most revered figure in modern Los Angeles and this is absolutely not acceptable," one person wrote.

Another added, "That mural was a symbol of love, loss, and legacy. It’s heartbreaking to see people show so little respect for their memory." One other fan shared, "Kobe is always OFF LIMITS in LA."

Artist Louie Palsino started a GoFundMe page last month to help raise the money to restore the mural over time due to normal "wear and tear."

"I am reaching out to the community to help restore the beautiful Kobe & Gigi mural that has brought inspiration and unity to so many. This mural was a special collaboration with NFL for Superbowl LVI. Over time, the mural has faced wear and tear, and I am eager to bring it back to its original glory," Palsino shared on the GoFundMe page.

"Your generous donations will go directly towards the materials needed for the restoration process, including high-quality paints, sealants, and other essential supplies. The Kobe & Gigi mural holds a special place in our hearts, symbolizing strength, legacy, and love. By contributing to this cause, you are helping preserve a piece of art that continues to uplift and inspire our community."

On Tuesday, Doncic visited the GoFundMe page and donated the full goal of $5,000.

"It was always important to give back to the community," Doncic said after Lakers practice, according to the Associated Press. "They gave me so much, so I just want to give back."

Doncic joined the Lakers three months ago when he was traded from the Dallas Mavericks. Bryant spent his entire 20-year career with the Lakers.

According to Newsweek, Doncic said, "Kobe is L.A. He and Gigi mean so much to this city, to the Lakers organization and to me personally. I'm happy to do anything to help make sure he and his daughter are honored."

Vanessa Bryant, Kobe's wife and Gigi's mom, announced that a book highlighting the various murals around the world will be released soon.

"Kobe and Gianna Mural book highlighting a selection of murals in their honor coming 8/19/25," she captioned her photo on Instagram.

The Kobe & Gianna Bryant Mural's Instagram page also shared news about the soon-to-be released book.

"Honored to contribute to this special book, highlighting artists and murals around the world paying tribute to Kobe and Gianna Bryant. You can preorder the book now at our bio link. Mamba and Mambacita Forever book releases this Fall," they captioned a photo of the book.

Fans of Bryant's shared their excitement over the book in the comment section.

"Through tragedy, this page brought beauty, art, and motivation to so many of us. Seeing artists around the globe show love through their work helped me find purpose in mine. All love to everyone who worked on this book. I can’t wait to read it with my girls," one fan wrote.
