With so many WNBA fans excited to see Paige Bueckers debut in the league, it's no surprise that her hometown is also anxiously awaiting that day. To commemorate such a big, exciting moment for the Dallas Wings rookie, Bueckers hometown of Hopkins is renaming the city for one day in honor of the UConn star.
On May 16, Hopkins will be renamed Paige Bueckers, Minnesota to celebrate "Paige Bueckers Day" and the day she steps on the court for the first time as a WNBA star.

Bueckers, 23, has been making big moves on and off the court. Just days after leading the UConn Huskies to their 12th NCAA women's basketball title, Bueckers was the first overall pick in the WNBA draft. In that short timeframe, there has also been news of the basketball star signing a three-year deal with the new women's basketball league, Unrivaled.
She's also been making moves off the court. Last year, Bueckers signed an NIL deal with Unrivaled, giving her equity in the new league. She also partnered with popular hair color brand Madison Reed to debut her very own signature color.

Bueckers hometown, Hopkins, is renaming the town to Paige Bueckers, Minnesota, to commemorate her first game in the WNBA.
A Hopkins City Council report shared how Bueckers made a name for herself as a Hopkins High School basketball star before heading off to college.
"Paige Bueckers made a name for herself as a Hopkins High School basketball player, becoming known as one of the best to ever do it at the high school level in Minnesota and moving on to the University of Connecticut," the city proclamation honoring Bueckers reads.
After listing some of her accomplishments, including "winning both the Naismith and Wooden Awards," the proclamation explained how they plan to honor the hometown hero.
"The City of Hopkins would like to honor her accomplishments and wish her the best of luck at the professional level by proclaiming May 16th as Paige Bueckers Day and renaming the city to Paige Bueckers, Minnesota for the day," the documents reads. "We invite the community to celebrate the kickoff of the WNBA season with Think Hopkins and our local businesses on WNBA watch day, where businesses will have themed specials, air the game and celebrate the season opener - because everybody watches women's sports."
Did we mention that the Dallas Wings will be facing the Minnesota Lynx for Bueckers' first game in the W? That fact seems to pump fans up even more!
Fans Were Excited To Learn About What Hopkins Has Planned For The Basketball Star

Overtime WBB shared the big news on their Instagram page, and it didn't take long for fans to hop into the comment section to share their excitement.
"LETS GOOOOOOOOOO PAAAAAAAAIGE!!! I SEE YA MINNESOTA!!!" one fan wrote. Another shared, "Never rooted for anyone so hard."
One person wrote, "I support this wave and I’m not even a basketball fan or from Minnesota." Another wanted to know, "Is this gonna be updated in Google Maps?"
Paige Bueckers Was The First Overall Pick In The 2025 WNBA Draft

Just a week after winning the NCAA women's basketball national championship, Bueckers was drafted into the WNBA by the Dallas Wings as the first overall pick.
Joined by her family at the draft, Bueckers shed tears of joy after hearing her name called as the No. 1 pick.
According to PEOPLE, Bueckers told ESPN after selected that she felt, "an overwhelming sense of gratitude," and credited her family and friends for their support in her journey. "It takes a village," she said.
"It's super surreal just being here with other draft invitees," Bueckers told ESPN. "I've been focusing on staying present, staying where my feet are and to be here right now. I'm extremely blessed."
The Basketball Star Has Her Own Signature Hair Color Shade

While she's been busy making serious moves on the court, she still had time to make some big moves off the court. She recently teamed up with premium hair color brand Madison Reed to launch, "UConnic Blonde," a signature hair color inspired by Bueckers iconic blonde locks.
The first-of-its-kind shade was unveiled in early March and is sold exclusively at Ulta and through Madison Reed.
