Bill Gates has no plans to turn his kids into billionaires, at least not with his $101.2 Billion Net worth.

Despite being the world's fourth richest person, he recently disclosed that his three children will receive less than 1% of his wealth.

Bill Gates' announcement echoes a long-standing philosophy he shared in 2022 when he pledged to give away most of his fortune to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Gates may be one of the wealthiest men in the world, but when it comes to passing down his wealth, he is keeping things surprisingly modest for his children.

While speaking with Indian podcaster Raj Shamani, the tech mogul opened up about his views on inheritance, revealing that his three children will receive less than one percent of his estimated $101 billion fortune.

"My kids got a great upbringing and education but [will get] less than 1 percent of the total wealth because I decided it wouldn't be a favor to them," Gates explained. He emphasized his belief that his wealth is not a family dynasty, stating, "It's not a dynasty. I'm not asking them to run Microsoft."

The Microsoft Co-Founder Says His Kids Know the Billion-Dollar Legacy Is Not Theirs

The 69-year-old may have built a fortune and is more focused on giving back than passing down to his children. During the sit-down with Shamani, Gates addressed whether his three children ever felt slighted by his decision to donate nearly all of his wealth. His answer? Communication and clarity are key.

"You don't want your kids to ever be confused about your support for them and your love for them," Gates noted. He explained that by being upfront about his values early on, he clarified that their inheritance is a different legacy. In his words:

Years before confirming his children would inherit less than 1% of his fortune, Gates had already clarified that his billions were never meant to stay in the family vault.

In 2022, The Blast reported that the philanthropist made headlines with a powerful declaration that he was preparing to shift a staggering $20 billion of his wealth to his foundation.

In the blog post, Gates reflected on the compounding global crises, from the COVID-19 pandemic to economic instability, and how those challenges affected people. In response, he announced plans to increase the foundation's annual spending to $9 billion by 2026.

Rather than seek other investors to fund the expansion, Gates pledged to foot the bill himself, stating that nearly all of his wealth would eventually be handed over to the foundation, except for what was needed to support his and his family's basic needs.

Beyond the vast contributions earmarked for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the businessman committed substantial funding toward U.S. healthcare issues like Alzheimer's and climate innovation via Breakthrough Energy.

Despite knowing that his philanthropic choices would eventually knock him off the billionaire leaderboard, Gates shared that he never saw any of it as a loss. He wrote:

"I enjoy the work, and I believe I have an obligation to return my resources to society in ways that have the greatest impact for improving lives."

Gates did not stop there. He also used the moment to call on fellow wealthy people to follow suit, urging them to use their wealth for global good.

While encouraging his affluent peers to join him in giving back, the father-of-three took a moment to honor his longtime friend and partner in philanthropy, Warren Buffett.

He highlighted that a staggering half of the foundation's resources came directly from the Berkshire Hathaway CEO's contributions, a commitment that began in 2006.

Buffett's generosity reportedly reached new heights in June 2022 when he donated an additional $3.1 billion, bringing his total gifts to an eye-watering $35.7 billion.
