Even though "Modern Family" wrapped five years ago, Ty Burrell's connection to the cast is far from over.

Burrell, beloved for his role as quirky, lovable dad Phil Dunphy, was part of the show’s core family unit during its 11-season run on ABC from 2009 to 2020. His character was married to Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen), with their kids played by Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, and Nolan Gould.

The show’s extended family included Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Claire’s brother Mitchell, Eric Stonestreet as his husband Cameron, and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as their daughter Lily. Ed O’Neill and Sofía Vergara starred as patriarch Jay Pritchett and his wife Gloria, with Rico Rodriguez and Jeremy Maguire rounding out the Delgado-Pritchett household.

Burrell Misses 'Modern Family' Reunion

At the 2024 SAG Awards, Burrell joined Bowen, O’Neill, Vergara, Stonestreet, and Ferguson to present the comedy ensemble award to FX’s "The Bear."

A few months later, a mini-reunion happened on screen when Burrell, Bowen, Stonestreet, and Ferguson reprised their roles in a commercial for WhatsApp.

Even their informal get-togethers have drawn attention, like a November 2023 gathering hosted by Vergara at her L.A. home. Though Burrell couldn’t make it, his castmates made sure he was there in spirit. In fact. Ariel Winter held up a photo of him in a group shot shared on social media.

Sarah Hyland isn’t ruling out a return to "Modern Family," in fact, she’d welcome the opportunity to revisit the role that made her a household name. But she’d want to make sure Haley Dunphy gets the comeback she deserves.

While attending the 2024 Drama Desk Awards, the actress shared with People that she would be open to a revival of the beloved ABC sitcom, as long as the creative vision aligns with her hopes for Haley’s future.

“I would want to see a script first,” Hyland said. “I think creatively for me, I would want to know what was going on with Haley. I want to see her career back and stuff and her creativity and I want her to be able to do both.”

Hyland portrayed the eldest Dunphy sibling for all 11 seasons of "Modern Family," which aired from 2009 to 2020. The series finale found Haley adjusting to motherhood after giving birth to twins, adding a new layer to the once-party girl’s storyline.

“[I want to see Haley] do what Claire [Dunphy] then set out to do and did as an amazing mother as well as businesswoman and CEO,” Hyland continued. “And I would really love to see that creative side back for Haley. So yeah, I don't know.”

Talk of a possible reboot has been swirling among fans, and even the cast, after Hyland’s former co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson posted photos of the original Dunphy home on Instagram in late May, sparking speculation about a reunion.

When asked whether she’d be interested in reuniting with her castmates, Hyland didn’t hesitate. “Yes. I love 'Modern Family' so much. I love the cast with my entire heart and soul,” she said. “I mean, Jesse and I are so close, and his husband Justin and my husband Wells, the four of us vacation together. I would love to be back with everybody.”

While a reboot isn't confirmed, fans eager to revisit Phil’s dad jokes or Gloria’s fiery flair can stream all 11 seasons of "Modern Family" on Hulu.
