Things took a turn when DiCaprio entered the restaurant.

“We had just ordered and she was on her phone. And then I saw her look up and all of a sudden it was like she was stricken. I mean, I really thought something was wrong with her. I said, ‘What’s the matter?’ and she said (whispering), ‘Shut up!’”

Ed O’Neill may have started out with dreams of making it big in professional football, but fate had different plans, and those plans would turn him into a television icon.

Best known for his roles as the crass-yet-lovable Al Bundy on "Married… with Children" and the sophisticated patriarch Jay Pritchett on "Modern Family," O’Neill has built a decades-long career that bridges two generations of comedy fans.

Before his big break, O’Neill had a brief stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but after being cut from the team in training camp, he turned to acting, a pivot that would define his legacy.

His blue-collar charm and sharp comedic timing made him the perfect fit for Al Bundy, a disgruntled shoe salesman who became one of the most recognizable characters in television history. "Married… with Children" ran for 11 seasons and cemented O’Neill as a household name.

Years later, O’Neill reinvented himself with a more modern, nuanced role in "Modern Family."

As Jay Pritchett, the no-nonsense patriarch of a sprawling and diverse family, O’Neill brought heart and humor to the award-winning series. The show ran for 11 seasons and won multiple Emmy Awards, proving that O’Neill’s talent had timeless appeal.

Despite the vastly different personalities of Al and Jay, O’Neill brought authenticity to both roles, earning critical acclaim, industry respect, and a place in sitcom history.
