Kim Kardashian found herself in a real-life jewelry nightmare when a massive diamond fell out of her necklace at billionaire heir Anant Ambani’s extravagant $600 million wedding in India.
The lost gem was part of an elaborate statement necklace that Kim Kardashian borrowed from celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz.
Kim Kardashian’s Diamond Disaster Caught On Camera

The reality star detailed the high-stakes mishap during Thursday’s episode of "The Kardashians," revealing that she and her sister Khloé Kardashian scrambled to locate the missing gem.
“We’re looking all over the floor, trying to see where it went, looking in my top, looking in my skirt, like, it’s nowhere to be found,” Kim recounted in a confessional interview.
Khloé theorized that Kim lost the stone while speaking to the bride’s sister, a self-proclaimed "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" fan. Fortunately, with Hulu cameras rolling, the exact moment the diamond detached was caught on film, confirming Khloé’s hunch.

Page Six previously reported that the Kardashian sisters wore more than 1,000 carats of diamonds, emeralds, and pearls to the multi-day celebration. The piece that suffered the wardrobe malfunction featured 170 carats of diamonds, with several pear-shaped stones suspended throughout the design.
Kim admitted that as soon as the diamond vanished, she panicked at the thought of having to pay for it.
“Oh my God, I’m going to have to pay for this,” she said in the confessional.
Despite their best efforts, the diamond was never recovered, leaving Kim to accept the loss. “I felt bad about it in the moment,” she admitted.
Kim Kardashian Has A History Of Lost Diamonds

This isn’t the first time Kim has lost a pricey piece of jewelry. Longtime "KUWTK" fans will remember her infamous meltdown in Season 6, when her then-boyfriend Kris Humphries playfully tossed her into the ocean during a family trip to Bora Bora, only for her $75,000 diamond earring to disappear in the water.
The moment became legendary, thanks to Kourtney Kardashian-Barker’s now-iconic response, “Kim, there’s people that are dying.”
Also during Thursday’s episode of "The Kardashians," the reality star reflected on her past engagement rings, including the one she received from Humphries. But as it turns out, the lavish 18-carat emerald-cut diamond from Lorraine Schwartz wasn’t entirely a gift from the former NBA player.
To make matters worse, Kim admitted that she was the one who largely paid for it. “He contributed a fifth,” she clarified, leaving Appleton stunned. “Jesus,” he responded, calling the situation “savage.”
While discussing her collection with sister Khloé Kardashian and friend Chris Appleton, Kim also revealed that she did not keep the ring. “I was pregnant with [daughter] North [West], still married to him, and in order to divorce him, he said I had to give him the ring in my divorce.”
Kim Reveals The Truth Behind Her Engagement Ring From Kris Humphries

Kim and Humphries’ whirlwind romance and ultra-lavish wedding dominated headlines in 2011, only for their marriage to end in just 72 days. Their messy divorce was finalized in 2013, just weeks before Kim welcomed her first child with Kanye West.
Jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz, who joined the Kardashian sisters on their trip to India for Anant Ambani’s wedding, reassured Kim that it was ultimately for the best. “But I would’ve loved a collection,” Kim joked, hinting that she wouldn’t have minded keeping a few sentimental pieces from her past.
Kim Kardashian's New Rules For Luxury

In 2016, Kim was robbed at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room, an ordeal that prompted her to scale back on extravagant displays of wealth. Writing for Wealthsimple in 2018, she explained, “I don’t like presents anymore. I just don’t want that stuff right now. I don’t buy a lot.”
While she has since found a balance between her love for luxury and personal security, Kim revealed during "The Kardashians" reunion in 2021 that she rarely keeps expensive items at home.
“No expensive items ever come to my home,” she said at the time. “I have it all taken from security before I even enter my home. I can’t sleep if I have, like, jewelry in my safe … I just don’t live my life like that.”
Even so, it seems Kim’s jewelry mishaps are far from over, though losing a diamond in the middle of a $600M wedding is certainly one for the books.
