Lip Reader Reveals The Truth Behind Emma Stone And Margaret Qualley’s ‘Aggressive’ Oscars Moment
Lip reader Nicola Hickling analyzed the viral clip of the "Poor Things" co-stars at the Academy Awards on March 2, telling The Daily Mail, “It looks like Margaret is about to square up in this scene, giving Emma her mean girl look.” However, despite appearances, she assured fans there was no real conflict between the actresses.
“Don’t worry, they are not fighting though,” Hickling clarified. “In fact, Margaret says to Emma, ‘Yeah, and I am about to freak out.’”
Hickling noted that this type of playful energy between Stone and Qualley isn’t new. “They do this all the time,” she explained, pointing out a similar lighthearted exchange at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
A viral TikTok video from last May captured the duo on the red carpet, pretending to argue in an exaggerated, joking manner.
Emma Blames Ryan Gosling For Oscars Wardrobe Malfunction During Acceptance Speech

Emma Stone’s big Oscars moment last year came with an unexpected fashion mishap as she took the stage to accept the Best Actress award at the 96th Academy Awards.
The "Poor Things" star experienced a wardrobe malfunction when the back of her strapless Louis Vuitton gown unexpectedly gave way mid-show. “My dress is broken; I think it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken,’” Stone quipped, referencing Ryan Gosling’s high-energy performance of his "Barbie" anthem earlier in the night.
Stone, known for her relatable charm, admitted she had been nervous about something like this happening. “The other night I was panicking, as you can kind of see happens a lot, that maybe something like this could happen,” she said before delivering an emotional acceptance speech.
Despite the minor wardrobe hiccup, Stone stunned on the red carpet in a mint green peplum-style gown. According to Page Six, E! News correspondent Zanna Roberts Rassi noted that her color choice appeared to pay homage to the "sorbet theme" of her costumes in "Poor Things," as well as her fashion choices at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards earlier this season.
Fortunately, the star’s dazzling 30-carat yellow diamond choker remained firmly in place throughout the incident. As she exited the stage, Stone made sure to keep the mood light, warning the audience with a laugh, “Don’t look at the back of my dress.”
Emma Stone Jokes About Wardrobe Malfunction As John Cena Steals The Show With Bold Oscars Moment

Stone wasn’t the only celebrity to have a playful fashion moment at the Oscars.
Earlier in the evening, John Cena made a surprise appearance wearing nothing at all while presenting the Best Costume Design award, ironically, to "Poor Things," the very film that earned Stone her Oscar.
The Yorgos Lanthimos-directed film took home four awards out of its eleven nominations, including Best Hair and Makeup and Best Production Design.
Oscars 2025 Honors 'James Bond' Legacy With Star-Studded Tribute

The 2025 Academy Awards paid tribute to the enduring legacy of "James Bond" with a dazzling musical performance featuring Blackpink’s Lisa, Doja Cat, and Raye. The special segment honored longtime Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who recently stepped down after decades of overseeing the franchise.
With their departure, Amazon MGM Studios has officially taken over the future of the "Bond" series, an agreement first reported by Variety in February.
Margaret Qualley Takes Center Stage

The tribute at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony began with an introduction from former "Bond" girl Halle Berry, who starred in "Die Another Day" and set the stage for the night’s celebration of the iconic spy saga.
Margaret Qualley, who has never been involved with the "Bond" franchise, took center stage in a striking red dress, dancing as the legendary "Bond" theme played in the background. The performance then transitioned into a series of musical tributes to classic "Bond" themes.
