As a busy mom, Chelsea understands the challenges of getting kids to spend time outside, whether it’s negotiating time away from screens or convincing them to wear bug spray.

“I heard this stat that said that 56 percent of parents said that their kids would choose an extra hour of screen time over an extra hour of playing outside. So that's something I've been focusing on,” Chelsea told The Blast.

For Chelsea, Little League has been a game-changer in encouraging her sons to enjoy the outdoors.

“I definitely [recommend] Little League. Sign your kids up for that," she told The Blast. "I grew up playing soccer. So when we're just home, like I would go out and play soccer with my little and middle son. Brandon's really into football right now, too. So it's really just any activity. But Brandon and Max, my four-year-olds, we're about to sign them up for Little League as well, so that'll be their first, like, sports sport.”

With warmer weather and baseball season bringing more mosquitoes and ticks, Chelsea’s collaboration with OFF! aligns perfectly with her focus on keeping her kids safe. “That's something I don't compromise on, is protecting my kids from bugs,” she emphasized.

The 33-year-old's dedication to protection against bugs is also personal. Her mother was diagnosed with Lyme disease from a tick bite when Chelsea was a child. This experience has made her vigilant about ensuring her own children are protected.

“That's why I always like to prioritize making sure that my kids are protected,” she explained.

Her go-to product is OFF!'s new aerosol spray, which features a non-greasy, fragrance-free formula that dries quickly on the skin. Even her kids, who are often wary of new products, are fans of the spray.

“My kids actually like it,” Chelsea added. "Obviously, they're hesitant with new things, but as soon as they felt how non-greasy the spray was, they were like, okay. They're actually totally fine. They think it's great getting on now."

A recent survey, shared with The Blast and conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of OFF!, has highlighted a growing challenge for parents: getting their children to spend more time outdoors.

The online study, which took place between January 16 and 21, 2025, gathered insights from 1,015 parents of children under 18 across the United States. The results reveal not only the impressive negotiation skills of young children but also the increasing difficulty parents face in encouraging outdoor play over screen time.

According to the survey, more than half (51%) of parents said their children spend less time playing outside than they did at the same age. The decline in outdoor playtime is significant, with 26% of parents noting their children spend 1-2 hours less outside daily, and 25% reporting a 3-4 hour decrease compared to their own childhoods.

Children Would Choose Screen Time Over Outside Play

One of the most revealing statistics from the survey showed that 56% of parents believe their kids would choose an extra hour of screen time over an hour of outdoor play. This data highlights a growing trend where digital entertainment often trumps traditional outdoor activities, making it challenging for parents to encourage a healthy balance between the two.

With her authentic approach to parenting and her focus on safety, Chelsea Freeman’s partnership with OFF! is set to inspire families everywhere to make the most of their outdoor adventures this season.
