Jennifer Hudson and Common may want to rethink having front-row seats at a basketball game following their wild date night.
The couple stepped out to watch the New York Knicks face off against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, March 4. However, the game got a little too dangerous for J.Hud after a failed steal attempt.
Although the rapper rose to the occasion to save his girlfriend, things didn't go as expected. Jennifer Hudson and Common have been making waves since 2022 as a couple, but they did not confirm their relationship publicly until January 2024.
Common Nearly Saves Jennifer Hudson From Harm

The drama went down at Madison Square Garden during the game's second half. Knicks star Miles McBride attempted to steal a loose ball but missed, hurling it toward the front-row seats. Unfortunately, Hudson and Common were seated in the danger zone.
Common sprang into action, attempting to protect Hudson's face from the ball by pushing it upwards. It was a close call, as seen in a video capturing the moment on X. However, the rapper's quick reflexes were not enough to save the day.
Instead, his knight-in-shining-armor moment was ruined by doing more harm while trying to do good. While defending Hudson from the ball, Common accidentally smacked her in the face with his arm.
The chaos continued as his girlfriend got another dose of trouble with an unstable McBride crashing into her.

Following the accident, Common was seen rubbing Hudson's shoulders and trying to comfort her. She did not immediately acknowledge his efforts as she appeared dazed by the incident. The "Cats" actress took off her glasses and repeatedly shook her head, seemingly stunned.
Fortunately, Hudson didn't appear injured, and TMZ reported her night continued without any incidents. She met renowned film director and producer Spike Lee and enjoyed watching the Knicks try to beat the Warriors.
Hudson isn't the first female star to be threatened by a loose ball in a basketball game, as Hollywood veteran Anne Hathaway almost got injured last November. NBA star OG Anunoby's attempt to catch a ball sent him tumbling over the stands where she sat.
Common And Hudson Confirm Their Relationship On Her Show

After two years of speculations about their romance, The Blast shared that Common and Hudson had confirmed their relationship on her eponymous talk show. After his lover introduced him to the audience, the "Southside" rapper appeared with a large bouquet for the host.
The pair didn't waste time and dived into the topic most fans were curious about, with Hudson asking if Common had a girlfriend. The entertainer sweetly replied, "Yes. I'm in a relationship that is with one of the most beautiful people I ever met in life."
"And she's smart, she loves God, she has something real down-to-earth about her, she's talented," Common gushed. He threw the same question at Hudson, and she confirmed she was "very happy" in her relationship.
However, they both chose not to mention their partner's name, but it was pretty obvious who they meant.
The Rapper Expressed His Desire To Tie The Knot

After subtly confirming their romance on "The Jennifer Hudson" show, the couple became bolder when expressing their love for each other publicly. The Blast noted that Common doubled down on his past comments about getting married to Hudson last December.
He confirmed his intentions on the "TODAY" show, noting he was not shy about expressing his love for Hudson. When host Al Roker teased him about his words, Common reiterated that he would never avoid speaking the truth, saying:
"I didn't feel like that was the hot seat. I was just being true to who I was. It was the cool seat because it was really just, man, I was telling my truth, and that truth still is there."
Common And Jennifer Hudson Support Each Other

During the interview, Common raved about his support for Hudson, stressing that he loved watching her work on her talk show. "In life, for me, I look for people in my life who are uplifting, who believe in a higher power, who treat other people well."
He noted their busy schedules were not problems in their relationship, claiming it worked well for them. Common first dropped his bombshell desire to marry Hudson during a July 2024 appearance on "The Breakfast Club," saying, "If I'm going to get married, it's to her."
Even without a trip down the aisle, Common and Hudson have shown how deeply rooted their respect and love for one another is.Last year, the EGOT honoree applauded her man's personality, raving:
"He's very passionate about everything he's into. He leads with the heart, and I lead with the heart in everything that I do, as well."
