Jax Taylor Reveals He's Struggled With Cocaine Addiction For Two Decades

While chatting with Baskin, Taylor opened up about his personal life and declared that he was "an addict."

“I have substance issues—primarily with cocaine. It’s hard to say out loud," he said before admitting he's struggled with this battle "since I was 23 and now I'm 45."

The reality star continued: "There [were] times where I would stop doing it, but then there were times where I'd go heavy on it."

Taylor, who now stars in the Bravo show "The Valley," admitted how challenging revealing his struggle with addiction is.

"I've never said this in my life," he said. "So, to come out and say that I have an addiction [and] that I have a sickness that I have to work on the rest of my life is a really big deal for me."

Elsewhere, during his conversation with Baskin, Taylor, who recently finished a run on E!'s "House of Villains," shared that he also cut alcohol out of his life despite not having a "problem" with it.

As he sees it, the two are closely connected. "I can’t do cocaine without drinking," he admitted. "So I just gave up both. I’m proud to say I’m 83 days sober right now, which is the longest I’ve ever gone in my life without either."

Taylor departed "Vanderpump Rules" after season 8 concluded in 2020. Throughout his run on the show, the former model discussed his life difficulties, but never to this extent.

Viewers have always had strong opinions about Taylor, and according to him, they "could kind of tell" that he was using drugs. However, the production company wasn't clued into Taylor's behind-the-scenes behavior.

"Everything I was doing was on my own, but I was just on that train, and I couldn’t get off," he said.

One of Taylor's co-stars, Billie Lee, who appeared on the show as an official "guest" during the earlier seasons, discussed her alleged experience filming with him during a podcast interview in 2021.

Bravo fans and "Vanderpump Rules" viewers have begun sharing their thoughts about Taylor's confession to Baskin on social media.

Although many netizens have alluded to knowing this information, several others acknowledged how difficult it may have been for Taylor to admit he was addicted to cocaine.

"This is a big thing to go public with," one user wrote. "A big step in his recovery process."

A second user agreed and said they were "impressed [Taylor] openly admitted this." They continued: "Even though we've known he was an addict for a decade."

"We knew, he knew, he knew [that] we all knew, but it's still not easy to admit and get help," a third person added. "So, as much as we all detest Jax for various reasons, good for him on this!"

In a statement to Us Weekly, Taylor called 2024 "the hardest year of my life" before saying he's taken "crucial" steps to heal and take care of his well-being.

"It’s been a day-by-day process, but I’m committed to my recovery and working towards a healthier future in order to be a better person and someone my son will be proud of one day," he finished.

In addition to his ongoing divorce from his wife, Cartwright, Taylor is feuding with another "VPR" co-star, Lala Kent.

The podcast host and mother of two recently blasted the 45-year-old for not helping Cartwright with their son, Cruz.

"You know, I’m very proud of her. Just what she does on a regular basis for her life. You know, she doesn’t have… Jax is not helpful. He does not contribute in any way, shape or form. I don’t care if he hears me say that, either. This is a fact," Kent said.

Taylor, however, rejected that statement before claiming Kent was uninformed. He also explained his current custody schedule and noted that he spends time with Cruz "three or four times a week."

"I take him to school. I don’t know what else I can do at the moment until the divorce is final, but I see him at least three times a week. I help out as much as I can," he said.
