Patrick Mahomes Stuns College Student With Life-Changing Gift After Crazy 94-Foot Putt

Blake Porter’s viral sports moment just got even better, thanks to none other than Patrick Mahomes.

The Texas Tech student became an overnight sensation after sinking a jaw-dropping 94-foot putt during a commercial break at the Texas Tech vs. Houston basketball game on Monday. His instinctive celebration was a chest bump with the three-time Super Bowl MVP himself, who happened to be courtside.

Porter relived the moment on "The Today Show" on Thursday, February 27, where he attempted to recreate the legendary putt.

While he couldn’t quite sink the shot on live TV, the show’s hosts had an even bigger surprise in store, courtesy of Patrick Mahomes himself.

Appearing in a pre-taped segment, Mahomes delivered news that left Porter and his family stunned.

“What’s up, Blake?” the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback said. “What an awesome moment it was the other night. I was so excited to be a small part of it. And I know you think you know what you won, but what you don’t know is that Texas Tech Athletics is going to be paying your tuition next fall.”

Porter, visibly shocked, could barely contain his emotions as his mother and girlfriend joined him on set to celebrate.

But Mahomes wasn’t done. He added that he and his sponsor Adidas would be making Porter “an honorary member of Team Mahomes” and would be sending him a “nice care package” to help with his golf game.

“Oh my gosh, oh my gosh. Thanks, guys,” Porter said, still processing the incredible news.

Before the big reveal, Porter shared how he ended up on the court in the first place.

Despite arriving late to the game at United Supermarkets Arena, he was randomly chosen to participate in the on-court challenge. When asked if he wanted to take a shot at the seemingly impossible putt, he agreed, though he downplayed his skills, telling "Today Show" co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, and Carson Daly that he’s “a double bogey golfer at best.”

That didn’t seem to matter. Porter lined up, took his shot, and watched as the ball rolled all the way into the hole, igniting an eruption of cheers from the crowd.

As the arena went wild, Porter’s first thought was simple, to celebrate big.

“I just was like, ‘I really want to celebrate, I like to chest-bump people, there’s Patrick Mahomes,’” he recalled. “I didn’t even think about it. It was just one of those things.”

Even before learning about his tuition surprise, Porter told Lubbock NBC affiliate KCBD-TV that he and the NFL superstar had an instant connection. “We’re bros now,” he joked.

And with Mahomes covering his tuition and officially welcoming him to Team Mahomes, it seems like that bond just got even stronger.

The star-studded event brought together over 850 supporters, all rallying behind the Mahomes’ mission to support children’s programs, education, and community initiatives. The foundation took to Instagram to celebrate the event’s success, sharing a heartfelt message of gratitude.

“The 5th Annual 15 and the Mahomies Foundation Gala! Over 850 incredible supporters in attendance and 1,077,000 dollars granted to 20 Kansas City charities. Thank you to all of our amazing partners who continue to help us take this event to a new level each year. Together, we are changing lives. Let’s keep it rolling,” the foundation wrote.

Along with the announcement, the foundation shared a highlight reel from the evening, capturing special moments from the event.
