Singer Ashanti has paid tribute to the late Murder Inc. founder Irv Gotti and admitted they weren't on the best terms before his passing.

Gotti died on February 5 after suffering a stroke due to complications from diabetes. He was reportedly on life support before the stroke.

The late music producer influenced the rise to stardom of several hip-hop stars, including Jay-Z, DMX, Ashanti, and Ja Rule.

Ashanti Mourns Irv Gotti's Death

On Saturday, Ashanti posted a tribute to Gotti via Instagram. She shared a picture of the late producer posing with her, Ja Rule, and other Murder Inc. artists.

Ashanti also shared a Murder Inc. album cover as well as that of her debut self-titled studio album.

In the post's caption, Ashanti expressed disbelief at Gotti's passing and regretted them being on bad terms.

She wrote, "I can't believe things ended like this....and it makes me so sad...We weren't on the best terms other past few years but as I've always said, through our ups and downs I will forever be grateful for everything that you've done for me."

The "Foolish" singer went on to express her respect for Gotti's musical genius and influence on her career.

She wrote, "We made history and that will remain infinite.. I've always respected your musical genius and ability to push me to be my best.."

The 44-year-old singer said that all the greatness and positive things that came from her relationship with Gotti "far outweigh the dark and negative times."

She concluded, "I have always prayed for you to find peace. Sending love and prayers to the entire family. Rest well. Rest in Peace Irv."

Ashanti's tribute to Irv Gotti earned her plaudits from fans, who were impressed by her respectful words.

Fat Joe commented with five red heart emojis, while Compton rapper The Game wrote, "You classy af for this!!!!!!"

Actress and model Claudia Jordan added, "Class act," while comedian Luenell gushed, "I expected nothing less from The Lovely Ashanti and I've been waiting for this. She delivered. RIP Irv."

A fan confessed, "The most positive and respectful thing ever. Rip Irv and thank you Shanti for always remaining classy."

Another fan shared, "Ashanti really is a class act as always."

A third fan added, "I'm glad you have spoken. Ashanti has class and integrity."

Irv Gotti's Family Announces His Passing

Gotti's family announced his death via a post on his Instagram page on Thursday. They shared a picture of a young Gotti showing off his skills on a DJ set alongside a lengthy caption.

The caption read, "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Irving "Irv Gotti" Lorenzo, on February 5, 2025. Surrounded by family and friends, he departed this world, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him and the countless lives he touched."

Gotti's family continued, "Our dad was an incredible man, a true visionary who transformed the hip-hop industry and changed the game for artists and fans alike. His passion for music and dedication to his craft inspired many, and his contributions will continue to influence future generations."

The bereaved family added, "As we navigate this difficult time, we kindly ask for privacy while we grieve the loss of our dad, son, brother,uncle, and friend. We take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on through his music and the love he shared with all of us."

They concluded, "Thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging time." Gotti's kids, Angie, Sonny, and JJ, signed off the post.

Tributes Pour In For Gotti

After Irv Gotti's death was announced, many musicians took turns paying tribute to him.

Def Jam Records led the way in the tributes by praising Gotti for paving the way for the next generation of artists and producers who helped reshape "the soundscape of hip-hop and R&B."

Ja Rule reacted to Gotti's death by posting a broken heart emoji on X. Russell Simons, who initially revealed that Gotti was on life support, called on Black men and women to take their health more seriously. Meanwhile, 50 Cent received criticism after seemingly taunting Gotti after news of him being on life support made headlines.

Many more reputable music industry professionals recalled Gotti's greatness and hailed him for his contribution to hip-hop excellence.
