David 'Ace' Cannon, one of the hosts of the famous "Ace & TJ Show," has passed away.

Cannon, whose voice dominated the North Carolina airwaves for over a decade, died months after leaving the show.

Since the announcement of his death, fans and colleagues have paid homage to the famous presenter.

David 'Ace' Cannon Passes Away At 56

Beloved radio host David "Ace" Cannon has passed away at the age of 56.

Cannon's sister, Piper Wilson, shared the news of the radio presenter's passing on her Facebook page on Tuesday, February 4.

"For those of you that did not know. I have suffered a great loss today; my brother, David Ace Cannon, has passed away," Wilson posted on her page.

Despite the announcement of Cannon's passing, no cause of death has been given yet.

Before his death, Cannon was known for entertaining North Carolina residents on the breakfast radio show "Ace & TJ Show."

Cannon co-hosted the show alongside his colleague Ritchie "TJ" Beams. The radio program aired in Alabama and Louisiana before it was moved to Charlotte in 1998.

After hosting the show for more than twenty years, Cannon abruptly left his role in September 2024.

Listeners Pay Tribute To The Famous Presenter

Since the announcement of Cannon's death, many fans have paid tribute to the iconic presenter.

Under Wilson's post announcing his death, a fan wrote, "So sorry Piper. David was one of the sweetest people I have ever had the honor to meet. He will be truly missed by so many. You and [the] boys are in my thoughts and prayers."

Meanwhile, another fan narrated how Cannon stood with her family after the death of her son, writing, "He stood in my living room last year for breaking and entering as our friends nominated us because our son had committed suicide and they wanted to help our grandkids have a happy Christmas. He was so kind and helpful. He took a strong interest in our story, and I will forever be grateful [for] the joy he brought us last year in our time of sadness."

"I'm so sorry to hear about David Ace Cannon. He truly inspired me in my dark days to carry on and push through my hard times in life. He is truly at rest and peace. Love to you and your family! God bless you all!" another fan commented.

Cannon's Colleagues Pay Homage To The Iconic Presenter

Meanwhile, Cannon's colleagues have also paid homage to the legendary who dominated the airwaves for over two decades.

Hits 96.1, the former FM home station of "The Ace & TJ Show" from 2012 to 2021, also announced the news on social media, highlighting how devastated they were by the news.

"For years, he was an important part of so many people's lives, providing companionship and laughter to his many listeners and colleagues.," the station noted.

Fellow radio host Ryan Hoppe also shared his condolences on X. After narrating how Cannon took him under his wing as a "friend and mentor," Hope wrote, "This decade was not the best for him, but I will always have this back as he was an amazing person with flaws (like the rest of us). The world is less fun with ACE; I love you more than anything, bro. Thank you for being my friend, and I'll never forget you."

How Cannon And Ritchie 'TJ' Beams Started 'Ace & TJ Show'

David Cannon and Ritchie Beams met in 1991 while they were both working part-time at the radio station KQID Alexandria, LA.

After being paired for "Ace & TJ Show," the pair moved the program to different stations in Louisiana and Alabama before eventually landing in Charlotte.

After debuting in Charlotte on April 6, 1968, the "Ace & TJ Show" became a household name on the city's airwaves. Cannon and Beams were loved for their comedy bits and humorous banter, which endeared them to fans.

The duo was also known for their philanthropic efforts in the community, such as creating the "Ace & TJ's Grin Kids" charity, which took disabled or terminally ill kids on all-expenses-paid trips to Disney World, per The Charlotte Observer.

David 'Ace' Cannon Was Undergoing Divorce Proceedings At The Time Of His Death

Before his death, Cannon was going through divorce proceedings with his wife, Amanda, per Inside Radio.

In October 2024, a few weeks after he left the "Ace & TJ Show," Cannon posted a video on his Instagram announcing the news and requesting privacy while his family worked through the situation.

During their marriage, Cannon and Amanda welcomed their one-year-old son Dax. The radio presenter was also survived by his son Cade from his previous marriage to his first wife, Shonnette.

The former couple also shared a daughter, Payton, who tragically died in a car crash in 2020 aged 21.
